Three of us went through this about 25 years ago. After trying four different types of spear points, I settled on a 42" 3/8 shaft with lots of power and a 5 prong. If you hit him in the head or get a piece of the spine he doesn't move, but use an open muzzle just in case. Even if you hit the rock instead of the fish, there is enough left to still be useable.
