I can't tell from your post if you have never spearfished, or just never made your own gun.

If you have not been spearfishing before, you better off buying a "starter" gun to determine your likes and dislikes. Then from that, contempate your gun design. Otherwise, you might build something you never use. Also, if you've never built a gun before, on your first attempt I would recommend buying a quality trigger mech and focusing your attention on building the stock. Unless you have precision metal working tools/metallurgical knowledge, it is very time consuming and challenging to build a quality trigger mech. You'll usually can end up with less than precise tolerances which can lead to jams, poor trigger release, and even unexpeced failures.
