5mm will be fine for Oregon coast and lakes. Sunny days and surface temps are the most important factor. You will be impressed with that suit no doubt. Most of us who went from wearing scuba-style (cloth-lined/zippers/crap) wetsuits to freedive/spearo suits were blown away with the comfort, flexibility and warmth first time in.
