I can't say for sure if it was 2955ft or 2955m, but I do know that sperm whales have been recorded diving to at least 3200m. The so-called depth records are updated several times per year, and it may even be deeper now.

Depth records I'm aware of:
Harbour Seal 420m
Emperor Penguin 565m
Elephant Seal 2000m
Sperm Whale 3200m
Sea Otter 97m


The Elephant seal and Emperor Penguin have the most impressive depths if you consider the size of the animal vs. depth it dives.
