I hope one of the lessons tought was that you bunch should've been properly buddied up. One down and one up watching the other one. You had everything you needed for proper safety, you just didn't use it.

... Freediving is dangerous, doing it at night seems to up the ante and freediving into caves rachets up the risk considerably more. It might be worth reflecting on how risks mount up or multiply & how some of that risk might be offset.
