Re: Preparation before statics?

Zabuco,
I have greatly benefited from doing full negative breath holds with reverse packing followed by a full breath hold max static attempt as follows. I was not taught this by anyone so have developed it my self though I have now heard other people do similar training:
Start by starting a stop watch and lying down to relax where you can see the stop watch without moving anything, even your head.
While resting with no movement breathe slowly until 5 min.
At 5:00 min with no exhale and no purge, ventillations or hyperventillations simply exhale all the air that you can. Then do negative packs in small bits to suck as much air out of you lungs as you can, its nice to space these out over time so lungs go completely sucked emply by 5:30. If you don't know how or aren't comfortable doing negative packs then simply exhale, you will get 95% the same affect and be safer as you can injure yourself with negative or positive packing!!
Keep holding your breath, contractions may start at 5:30 and get intense very quickly. Once you can hold thru 6:00 (1 min hold) you will notice that the contractions don't really get any worse, I mentally think while I watch the timer, you can do 10 more seconds, and 10 seconds later its really not any worse so I say, OK its not any worse, I can do 10 more seconds. I have done max 2:00 total hold this way and at the end my heart slows down alot and my face feels flush and tingles afterward. I have never blacked out doing this though its possible. It's possible you will only do 30 seconds to start, then try only 5 or 10 more seconds each day you try.
So whenever you stop the negative breath hold and inhale do recovery breathing and relax and go untill the timer says 10:00 to start your max breath attempt. So start your max breath hold at 10:00 min timer and then see how long you can go. This works well as you can see your time on the breathold by simply taking 10:00 off the timer, example 12:15 would be breath hole of 2:15 min. This allows me to not move anything which I think is very important. You will do much longer breath hold of course with full lungs and the contractions will not seem intense at all compared to the negative breath hold you just did. I think this is most effective for begginers/intermediates who are not yet comfortable with strong contractions.
This is not the best prep for doing max PB statics attmepts, this is good for training to get better at statics. It takes much less time each day than doing tables and gave very good results for me to allow me to be more relaxed during contractions in my breath hold so can go much longer for max statics (my PB is 5:45 min).
I will not say what is best way to do max PB statics as have read many different techniques and am still experimenting alot with different techniques so am not authority on this at all.
Cheers Wes
