I am very proud of the mentor team and the team leaders here on DB. They all do a stunning job and generally make very sensible decisions. They have a private area on these forums that allow them to discuss threads and posts before having to take any action and very often they all debate what to do before anyone does anything. They work all the time on keeping these forums a nice place and very often you don't even know they are working as moderating posts and threads are only a small portion of their duties.

It is important to note that whilst I am an advocate of free speech - these forums are not are a "right" - in that you are granted a privilege of being allowed to join and contribute but if you break the house rules you will be given formal disciplinary action - this is normally a cool off PM first, then a second stern warning and then finally a ban (which is permanent). The only people who are banned outright at the moment are Spammers as they are total scum, otherwise everyone else has the opportunity to correct their action.

If anyone has any particular problems with any methods or policys they should be directed to me via PM or on stephan.whelan@deeperblue.net

great post!

i would like to take the opportunity to say that the mentors/team leaders are doing an excellent job.

in a recent thread, there was a member who became embroiled in a fight with the mods. i found the exchange was quite hostile and out-of-step with the general tone of db. flame wars bring everybody down. instead of further side-tracking that thread i thought mentioning it here seemed appropriate.

instead of naming this poster, the point i am trying to make is regarding the integral role of the mods to these forums. through their efforts (and the members too) db remains a respectful and welcoming place generally free from nasty flame-wars and mudslinging that are often rampant in other forums. as stephen reminded us above, this is a private forum and we all agreed to abide by the rules. lucky for us, the mods' directives are generally simple and easy to follow .

keep up the great work everybody. thanks for making this such a genuinely friendly community.

cheers,
sean
