mine broke (read thread) the rest was hacksaw and file, still looks crude. I did the following to insert nail, very nerdily:
- unscrewed the band, inserted nail in hole and marked nail (to measure hole depth)
- transfered this measurement to the outside, (so as to see where I should STOP inserting nail, I didn't want to go through
- drilled a 2mm pilot hole to that depth (not going through)
- mushed up nail shaft (use brass, inox or copper nails) with side cutters
- heated nail in very hot on gas grill flame and inserted

I have no idea how long it will last as I have only used for one dive, but it feels very firm. The wrapping action of the line is pleasant and very fast.
