Speedo's on the out side, long red scarf, cowboy boots and a kimono.
That would make for one hell of a photo for the photo comp. if it gets going again.
As for spearguns being banned in Japan, yeah it's true. But as with everything else in Japan there is a bit of an underground scene and private spearfishing clubs. I think the americans down in Okinawa are a bit more open about it though.
I have only used a polespear, but have got myself a gun for this season. After talking to some people around, the problem mainly lies with the fishermen who think all divers are after their shellfish. If you getconfronted you say sorry and go home, try to convince them you are only taking fish or change spots and things should be ok. where I go with my polespear the locals know I only want some fish and leave me alone. With my gun though It's only going to be used on certain days like if I can get out on a boat or drive to some more isolated spots.
quite a lot of people use them here though, the spearfishing sites are funny. As a lot of people put photos up of their catch but hide their faces.
