If you can surf a long kayak then the scupper will surf for you. Mine will handle seas as rough as I'm prepared to go out in. I've been through swells over ten feet high but only when they're smooth.
What scares me is when the distance between waves gets short and they get steep or when the chop gets big and the tide runs against it, making it screw and twist and you don't know which way to point the boat. I won't go out in this but I've been caught by worsening seas a couple of times and the Scupper always got me back OK.
