Diver Spears World Record Tuna Contd.
BY Susan Crocking

An interesting development after a very large pelagic fish, a 667lb Bluefin tuna, rarely seen off the shores of South Florida was caught by a visiting Tahitian Tabiko Boberia. "Apparently Mr. Boberia was not in possession of a valid Florida saltwater fishing license" said FWC official Pedro Porlacola. It remains to be seen to what degree Florida law will be applied in these unusual circumstances. The fish was caught a mile off shore which falls within state jurisdiction.

This could make things difficult for Boberia who intended to pursue IBSRC world record certification for this species. Further a sponsorship contract with JBL that has been in the works since the early afternoon may not materialize. This is a no win situation for all involved, JBL is known be suffering sluggish sales as of late.

Boberia is a well known spearfisher in his native small town of Quecono, Kimbombo Tahiti. He is a manger of a sporting goods outlet who supplemented his income by selling fish for 10 years to save enough money for this trip to Miami, Florida. "It was wedding anniversary gift to wife comiendo" said a tired but happy Boberia who maintained a positive attitude despite the latest development.
