I often use a mask for FRC recreational diving. Sometimes I also use fluid goggles. For deep dives sometimes I use nothing at all.
It just changes the dive reflex a bit. The best dive reflex is with no mask at all, the next best is fluid goggles, and the worst dive reflex is with a mask. However the mask is very comfortable and offers good vision, so I still use it most of the time during fun dives. It is also possible to do deep FRC dives with a mask (I've done 50m FRC w/mask), but the dives are harder to due less dive reflex.

"I encourage you to be free in the way you measure your success. I don’t claim to know what it will be like to be in your position, but I know that when you leave here, grades will be handed out differently. Your ability to gauge your success will largely depend on how you perceive it. You can shape it, set it up, feel it, and define it. Allow competition to turn inward. Do not depend on awards, money, or other validations." -Jonny Moseley
