The polespear will be a good way to figure out if spearfishing is for you, especially since the investment to you has only been elbow grease. As a scuba, you already know what it's like underwater but being down there without a tank is a much more intimate experience. Be modest with the polespear: it's better to watch a decent fish swim away then wound a fish you have almost no chance of subduing. Best of luck!
