Mahogany is fine, to be honest in some respects it is better than teak for guns. It is quite durable and with a decent epoxy finish on it is more than good enough for a gun. It's lack of density compared to Teak gives you the chance to balance the gun better. Often a slim teak gun can be nose heavy but the same gun in Mahogany can be balanced correctly because it is less dense more lead is needed and can be moved further back.
