I'd be interested in hearing what people have to say on this one too.
Got into freediving with my brother late year (fcallagy who some of you know from here already) and even though I've not been all that deep yet have been incredibly moved and affected by what I've felt, seen and experienced underwater. Want to convey that to people who can't/won't take the plunge. So have been looking online
A JVC Everio GZ-HD6 was recommened to me by a guy into filming who also uses a mac (and this camera apparently works well with mac editing software). So far I've only compared it with the Sony HDR-SR12 and while both like they'll do good jobs for me on dry land, the JVC cameras might be better in the low-light conditions one gets underwater. But it has no hotshoe which might mean problems attaching a flash if I go deeper ... and the housings available for it suggest that I'd have to fit lens internally before clsoing the housing and diving.
Whereas the Sony housings might allow changing of lenses outside of the housing which would be more convenient. It's got a hotshoe but might not be as good in darker light conditions.
All of which is entirely based on reviews read here:

And looking at the housings here:

But hopefully someone with experience of underwater filming will show up soon and give us some pointers...
Solstice Salutations!
