Re: Cape Town South Africa It's very quiet in here lately? I'll take the opportunity for a bit of a shameless self-promotion. I've just opened an online t-shirt store Feel free to suggest ideas for a real freediving t-shirt.

Re: Cape Town South Africa Just had an amazing dive in a spot that I drive past almost every day, but never bothered checking out. We went in just north of the Clan Stuart and made our way towards Glen Cairn. Saw the following: tons of perlies, two types of shark, lots of alikrekel, octopus, lots of hotties, lots of butterfish, other smaller fish, some weird squid type thing that swims like a ray, big crabs and all manner of smaller creatures. The reason I checked out this spot was because of the poacher who was busted with a bag full of kreef that he poached at Glen Cairn (and was selling it to the Chinese restaurant there. They had freezers full of poached abalone and kreef). I figured there might be be lots of kreef there and wanted to recon it for next season. Anyway, I didn't see a single kreef, but the dive was awesome anyway! Looks like a great place for spearing. Lots of drop offs and gullies! Next dive will be Glen Cairn swimming north towards Fish Hoek.

Re: Cape Town South Africa The area from Glen Cairn to Sunnycove used to be a popular spearfishing and rod fishing spot, it has some very deep gullys, and some really big caves, which makes it especially good for roman and even some yellowtail have been taken there. It has been abandoned by most spearos because it lies right on the path that the Great whites patrol. There have been a few surf ski's attacked in that area. It's quite notorius. Although Faiz and some friends dived there recently, they came back empty handed, although that might of been due to bad conditions. I wouldnt mind trying the spot north of the clan stewart with you some time. I'm taking the next week off so, if you free for a dive let me know. I figured there might be be lots of kreef there and wanted to recon it for next season. Sigh,... I wish we could find a spot on the false bay side that actually had kreef, it would save so much petrol and driving time. Last edited by Lenny; July 10th, 2009 at 17:46.

Re: Cape Town South Africa Cool! I hope it has BOs and shark attacks too! P.S. Are you and Paul still going to the pool? I've been a couple of times but no one was there so I've stopped (not too keen on a BO and being rescued by a German tourist).

Re: Cape Town South Africa Hey Lenny, sorry we missed you on Friday. We dived just off Sunnycove and had reasonable viz. Not much there as far as fish go, but at long last I found the elusive False Bay kreef! There were lots of small ones, but they got bigger as we swam towards the Glen Cairn side. Next dive will be Glen Cairn going round towards Fishhoek!

Sorry about Friday, my missus and I had a disagreement, so it looked as if diving was out for the day. But then she came to her senses and we went together down to Millers. The viz was good, absolutely no fish but i think that was because I dived in at 12am! There was a huge yellowtail run on a 1km out to sea. What i wouldnt have done for a boat then! Anyways so a bought 2 nice fish off one of the boats. R50 a fish, probally about 5-6kgs each, what a bargain! I will post pictures sometime. So you must come round for a fish braai sometime, it's long overdue |
