Any freedivers/Spearos in Bahrain? I'm looking to head out for a couple of months about christmas time. Any advice or help would be appreciated! thanks, Lou

I would also be interested in hearing about this area as well. My brother may have a chance at going here sometime in the near future.

Never lived but have been, I heard that the Sheikhs of Bahrain are big into spearing so there must be a big community.
Morg, Bahrain is nice. Small island but clean and it used to have some nice beaches 10 years back (when i was there). Lots of construction work going on there, is that why you are going? |

Not for construction. My brother is just getting out of school to become a airlines pilot and there are job prospects there for him.
I am currently trying my best to get into the same field (Pilot). I hear some nice prospects and wages are out there for pilots

hi
im heading to Qatar in december and i want to spear badly!!! i live in South Africa anlong the kwa-zulu natal coast and we have had terrible conditions this year.. all our reefs have been sand blasted when we had a massive storm this year and whenever the water is clean i got tons of varsity work.... i just want to know how cheap guns are there or whether i should rather take my own guns?? i want to buy a new 1.2m so if anyone has an approx price so i can compare it to the guns in SA??? how is the diving in Bahrain and Qatar???? what about spearing regulations... and if you want a dive buddy you should just email me at aarond.bennett@gmail.com and im sure we can make a plan!!! regards |

Nothing's cheap in Bahrain lol. The local dive clubs have active spearos- mostly scuba guys. Just head to a dive shop and ask. The Gulf is shallow and the 24 years of island-buliding (ie: dredging sand) has killed most of the reefs, so usually you're looking at long boat rides out to hunting spots.
Cheers.
