Since fresh water floats on saltwater we know saltwater has a greater density. Therefore if a gun was ballasted to be neutral in freshwater it would float in saltwater. If the gun was made to be neutral in saltwater it would then sink in fresh.
Basically floating loaded guns are a no-no, so if your going for use between fresh and salt water the gun should be balasted for neutral in saltwater and allowed to sink in fresh. I think the densities are 1.03 for salt and 1.00 for fresh.

Oh! It sinks in fresh water alright.I'm just going to finish putting it together and take it for a test drive to find out how it will work in saltwater.I tried it out in the creek on my property and it sunk eavenly but I hope it's not to front heavy. |
