New tech #4s sinks?

I just purchased a new tech 4 and was under the impression it and the tech 5 would float without the shaft. I placed it in the pool and it slowly went down. Is this a fresh/salt water thing? It is the basic set-up (open track, plastic muz. no bands on it, etc). I don't want to add the wings as I want to keep a slim profile, however I prefer the gun to float as I fight fish. Will this thing stay as least neutral with three bands once fired?

I have three much smaller guns but wanted more power and challenge than Ling and AJ's on scuba. I am focusing more on my freediving now and would like to get some options on how to rig this gun. I plan to hunt the weedlines and underwater structure off the Texas coast and looking to plan a trip to the East Baja cape or Central America. I guess any time I take this gun out I would like to be prepared for wahoo, Mahi, yellowfin, etc. Having the gun attached to the float line sounds smart, and makes sense if this thing won't float, however I wander why you don't see more of this. If you have time, let me know what you think as far as using this gun.
