Re: Philippine spearfishermen

Thanks Chris,
Yes I got one lapu-lapu that was smaller the last trip and he tasted great, this time it was exciting to find a bigger one. I would love to shoot some dogtooth tunas the next time I go over to Cebu. I almost went to Bohol as well, I understand there are a few places that you can spear there that aren't sanctuaries. Maybe we can meet up for some spearing next time, it was a little tough doing all those 75 to 80 ft. drops alone (my father-in-law and brother-in-law didn't want to go in the water with me ...scared of sharks)
Jim

Hi Chis

Do you live in Davao? I have a friend I was thinking of visiting in March. If I do would you be around to come spearfishing? If so where is a good place to go... and a safe place away from the Abu Sayaf?

Cheers

Miles

Re: Philippine spearfishermen

Hiya Miles,

Our hunting ground for the big fish (dogtooth tunas, trevallys) is a long drive farther south from Davao City. That would be the best place to go for freedive hunting (only freedive spearfishing is allowed there) but I don't recommend going there at these times.

dijicebu,

11 Davao spearos joining that June 5 trip.

Safe diving,

Re: Philippine spearfishermen

Hello all. I am moving to the Philippines in two weeks with a friend. We don't know yet whether we'll be setting up in Manila or in Cebu. I am converting him into a spearo so there will be two of us. At the moment I am a Euro style spearo catching smaller fish, but when I go out I plan to expand my technique. If anyone would like to do some fishing or exchange tips on good dive sites, message me.

Alex

Re: Philippine spearfishermen

Settingsteel,

We still have plenty of fish in the Philippines. I got a nice wahoo two days ago while a friend got a doggie.

By the way, how's the gun with the carbon fiber strips?

Cheers/Safe diving,

well thats good to hear! had a friend that was abroad for a few years and loved the Phili's and said it had plenty of fish, read in another post that they were all gone since....guns are doing fine and well into production, have made over 30 to date...3/4" thick by 1.5" wide of fish killing potion
