Any info on areas of potential freediving, any locals that skin dive, I'd be interested to hear from.

INDIA, i wou ldnt wana dive in india, They are so poor, and i heard alot of there water is contaminated because people bath in it and whatnot.

we have a member called tamoshee ... contact him. he rents out a nice house in Goa and apparently that's good diving..

Also you may want to investigate the Lakkadive islands, they belong to India and are pristine.

Now that sounds like a place I lakkadive.
The Andaman islands might be good, not sure how/if the tsunami affected them though, might be worth checking.

You were right Sands, Lakshadweep and Laccadive are the same Islands:

The name of the archipelago literally means hundred thousand islands (laksha = one hundred thousand, dweep = island). Until 1973, the island group was known by the Anglicized name Laccadives (compare to Maldives, Sanskrit name Maladweepa).

Lakkadive islands sounds more descriptive to me than hundred thousand islands.

Nothing bad about being amongst poor people and the sub-continents coastline is so vast, the ocean has a great cleansing quality ......

Unless I'm lucky - next summer.

If you're already going to south India, Sri-lanka should have some good (and lethal in the wrong spots) surf so I heard. Waves coming from antarctica with nothing in between... Diving can't be bad either.

Sounds like a great place to bodysurf..... and the sheltered part of island for the freediving.... I know a Sri-Lankan here, I'll quiz him some more...

Wonder what the vis is like in those parts.... well if it's crap, just move on to the next port of call, hey!!!
