better to have a disaster right at shore entry than 80 ft under.

Escaping seriously crippling accident prevents a different ending, scary!

Scary! Glad you're OK. Was an HP, or LP hose? On a different tack, have you been following the Shark Shield thread?

Averting crazy crippler indeed deems event not tragic.

Glad your OK KP. Any idea what may have caused the 'freak blow-out'?

it was an HP hose right out of the first stage - and it blew right where there was the metal crimping. on these HUBS there's also pneumatic dump, so the hoses are plumbed off in T formations, so i only have one main HP hose that feeds both second stages,- it eventually splits off into two hoses - but the main blows and that's it! obviously i need another source of redundancy now.

i just had it serviced like 3 mos ago - so i have to double check IF that particular hose was replaced at that time or not - freaky for sure - makes you take a step back and think to yourself "thank god i wasn't at 120 when it blew" and if i was w/o a stage bottle what would i have done? an extra octo on this set-up would have been useless......

and james other than a failure of the rubber, i'm not sure, as i always wash down this stuff so it definitely wasn't salt erosion.

bizarro!

tragic

thankfully reflexes and gear impose caution.

and LockedIn those sharks are getting sharky aren't they! but i'm not certain i wouldn't prefer taking my chances w/ a GWS than unknow equipment malfunctions!

ciao!

Yesterday offered no doubt, expecting resurgence.

Attempted to break in some new hiking boots yesterday. Maybe 10mi / 16km wasn't the best way to start. I have huge blisters on my feet today.

Have fun with the double "Y" word!

Yep, eventually snows thaw ending restless days admiring Yule-logs.

Spring feels like its about to be sprung. Our massive amounts of snow have started their journey back to the sea.

Sometimes you break the boot and sometimes it breaks you. 10 miles! I hope it was worth it. Where bouts did you go?

Rapidly exiting season to leave everyone smiling serenely

James, I followed a portion of the "Backbone Trail" at the northern end of the Santa Monica Mtn range. Beautiful hike! Starts at appx 900ft above sea level; includes a settler's cabin (circa 1860's Flagstone chimney & foundation), then up to the highest point in the range (3111 ft. according to the survey marker) That point has a stunning 360º view from Santa Barbara, to Palos Verdes, and includes (especially on windy days) all of the Channel Islands, Santa Barbara Island, San Nicholas Island, and Catalina. Unfortunately, that point was also where I noticed the blisters, and I wrecked my feet and ankles on the return journey. Doc (a friend, and a Doc!), came by this morning, told me to stay off of my feet thru the weekend, and gave me something strong that's given me no urge to be on my feet. Pics to come, when I can see straight enough to find them...

What in the world? How did you wreck your feet and ankles, Rick? Was it the blisters, or bad-fitting shoes, or a fall Hope you feel better soon.

Intrepid neophytes dared experience paths evidently not downhill, exhaustion now trounced lowly yesterday.

Damaged old wits never helped 'im live longer.

I bought some new Teva trail running shoes. Since they were "sooo comfortable", I decided to walk the path mentioned above. While at the peak, I discovered blisters on the balls of both feet, which became painful on the way down. Due to the pain, my walk became modified more to the heels / and sides of my feet. Lesson learned Feet are better, and I'm wearing flip flops in the office today!

Re: Acronym game ....

Spelling is KEY to this game....I always see tons of mistakes...Hence it kinda ruin's the game...for me anyways.

I'm not trying to bust anyones chops or pick on JamesS....But if one of the words in the acronym is totally mis-spelled - especially the FIRST letter of a word....IT'S NOT AN ACRONYM!!!!!!!! Envigorating IS NOT a word...Invigorating IS - But spelled properly- the word invigorating does not fit the acronym!

in·vig·or·ate - /ɪnˈvɪgəˌreɪt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[in-vig-uh-reyt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –verb (used with object), -at·ed, -at·ing. to give vigor to; fill with life and energy; energize.
[Origin: 1640–50; in 2 + obs. vigorate invigorated;

—Related forms in·vig·or·at·ing·ly, adverb
in·vig·or·a·tion, noun
in·vig·or·a·tive, adjective
in·vig·or·a·tive·ly, adverb
in·vig·or·a·tor, noun

—Synonyms strengthen, vitalize.

Sorry! Just felt I needed to point that out.... Therefore a proper acronym for the word Damaged has yet to be - It is still up for grabs...For that matter the word before Damaged was wrong too....As 'Im IS NOT a word either - not in that context anyways - I'm however IS a word - just not a proper fit again! The proper spelling would have been 'em...So actually the word downhill is also still up for a proper acronym too...

And thats just the LAST TWO words!

See what I mean? Not only THAT...Alot of the time even IF all the words ARE spelled corectly - the word or acronym just makes NO proper sense whatsoever....So whats the point? It's just throwing out random words that start with a certain letter if the acronym makes no sense!

This is pretty much why I don't join in on the Acronym game much anymore...It's no fun correcting people constantly...Or making an acronym out of a word that IS NOT a properly spelled word.

I hope when I check back here in the future that people have learned to use an online dictionary and or a good spellcheck...Sorry about the "lecture" but............If the word does'nt make any sense then it's pretty much pointless.

Without going back too far....To get this game on the right track again, DOWNHILL is the ACTUAL word waiting for an acronym.

I LOOK FORWARD TO READING ALL THE FUTURE ACRONYM'S RELATED TO MY ACRONYM SPELLING ANAL-NESS!!!!!!

Oh crap....Is ANAL-NESS a word? Hahahahahaha

Hey man Dan - Personally one of the reasons I love this game is the new words I discover. Occasionally I will also discover that what I thought was correct was actually incorrect. It is all in the name of fun and not to be taken too seriously.
I did notice in your post you spelled 'ruins' as "ruin's" which is quite incorrect as the nomitive apostrophe is completely out of place!

So anyway....ENVIGORATING

Re: Acronym game ....

O.K. then Shoutatthesky. Instead of "ruin's the game for me" how about

"It SCOTCHES the game for me." - No apostrophe!

How is that for learning a new word?

I make mistakes ALL OF THE TIME....That's why almost every post I make is edited atleast once! I could'nt live without it...We'll I'd live without it but you guys would see hoe bad my spelling really sucks! SEE!!!!!!! Oh shoot....I HAVE TO EDIT the word HOE!!! But I won't - so you can see I am human too!

BTW...I'll pass that info you gave me earlier along to my Neice & Nephew in N.Z. Thanx!
