Re: medical weirdness! im a freak i bet you are too...

Naid, that is very interesting. It reminds me of an article I
read about hummingbirds. It said that if humans had the same caloric requirements, we would need 155,000 calories a day!!!
To those with the lower than normal body temperatures, do you feel cold all the time? can you tollerate colder temperatures? I'm jsut curious because I get cold faster than anyone, I even had the nicname "shivers." I'm going to check my average temperature to see if its lower or higher than normal. i'm starting to think it might be higher than normal considering my eating habits. I eat a ton of food all the time. I'm always hungry, and even after a meal, theres always room for ice cream! And I dont gain an ounce, so I'm guessing I've got a pretty high strung metabolism, though not like a hummingbid by any means!

Re: medical weirdness! im a freak i bet you are too...

I do feel cold easily and shiver much more than anyone else. What happens is that if I don't move around, I get cold very fast and if I do move around, I get too hot, so in cold weather I am either too cold or too hot most of the time. That is out of the water - in any water less than 30c I am cold all the time, whether swimming or not.

Something else which may be related to low metabolic rate is that I get tired easily. This is a huge problem - people must think I am lazy when I complain that I have too much work, but it really is too much for me. I can't concentrate on anything for long. This causes much more inconvenience than the cold problem - I can usually avoid getting very cold, but I can't avoid the work that is expected of me.

All the medical weirdness things I have:
Low blood pressure
High heart rate
Probably low body temperature
Bad memory (I mean really bad, like a goldfish )

I will probably remember more soon.

Lucia

My body temp is usually around 97.5F or a tad lower. I can touch the tip of my nose with my tongue; the doc wanted to clip my tongue when I was a baby due to its length. I have been diagnosed as 'gifted', which is a category of special ed and means that academics make much more sense than most interpersonal relationships.

You have a great way with words I think you are indeed brilliant and am glad to find your posts.

I did not even know there is a tongue-clipping procedure. Yikes!

Oh, Batty, Batty. You poor thing, that type of special ed is my specialty. I'm the GATE coordinator for my site and have been for nearly 20 years. Hardly anyone ever believes me that the term "gifted" is no more apt that the equally appropriate "cursed". I am, the Mrs. is, and both the kids are, too. The smarter they come, the weirder they get and that "academics make much more sense than most interpersonal relationships." is one clear symptom of Asperger's. Fortunately, the less severely afflicted of us are no worse than "odd" and I can live with that. By any chance do you obsess over a particular subject?

I have a spare rib in my neck. Its made of cartlage and is about 10-15mm long (that I can feel), is attached to my collar bone and looks like a bug bite.

Someone called me 'weird' just this weekend, as a matter of fact. It wasn't in a nice way, either.
I have the ability to be very, very focused, and it can get to the point of obsession. It helps to keep that tendency in mind, because then it's possible to keep it from getting to that point, but it can definitely get out of hand.
I also tend to have a good rapport with animals. They also make a great deal more sense than people

I also have low blood pressure almsot always 92/60. I know what you mena about the golfish memory thing, I joke with my friends that i have "the memory of a goldfish" sometimes. Its usualy names I forget. Unless i see it written down or something. I reemmber a lot more of what I see than anything else. So I never liked teachers who lectured a lot, because it was almsot literaly in one ear and out the other. I'm similar about temperature, it feels like I have no ability to regulate my body temperature, it's always yo'yo-ing depending on what I'm doing. The difference is eating habbits, less than 2000 calories a day? I dont even know how many I eat, but I looked at a calorie calculator thing online, entered the information and stuff, It said I should be eating about 3,500-4000 a day, based on my activity level and other factors.

I dont know if its counted as TOO normal or weird, but I have never been sick more than a day at a time in my entire life. Never been to the doctors other than for regular checkups, never been to the hospital, never thrown up in my life. Worst I have had was the flu... only for a day though

Never vomited? I'd wonder about that, maybe you just spit out the nasties without the whole stomach-churning ordeal?

I remember a story on a boy who had never sneezed, miserable when nose got itchy, got a sort of cure while swimming with dolphins at a marina, able to sneeze. Cool.

Me, sort of "odd", mind focuses like a camera lens, zooms from telephoto to wide angle and back. Can't explain. Swimming around the world, I must be nuts!
Step 1) Hard part: 1st 100 m on one breath
Step 2) Easy part: repeating step 1) 400,000 times or so.

Re: medical weirdness! im a freak i bet you are too...

what a bunch of freaks! me - fairly normal except for being allergic to a load of stuff and with ridiculously sensitive skin

oh yeah, and I have an enormous head. I was born by Caesarean which apparently makes a difference as it didn't get squashed at birth. I used to horse ride and had to get a riding hat made to measure.... I prefer to think its just all the brains.. : )

Re: medical weirdness! im a freak i bet you are too...

One of my mates suffers with bad cramp in his legs and a little while ago we were in a well to do restaurant and from nowhere he gets an attach.
All was quite until his cramp kicked in and he was up from the table and hoping around like something possessed, in the end he made his way outside and was dragging his leg up and down the courtyard.
Laugh I dam near choked on a pork rib.
I guess we’re all a little weird in our own way.

Missing upper pair of teeth between the incisors and canines, which makes me look a vampire. Extra vertabrae in my lower back. Can whistle air through my left tear duct easily. Eyelashes to make the girls sick with envy. Usually lower body temperature by 1 to 2 degrees F. Resting heart about 50 beats/min. Very stable body weight regardless of eating or workouts, lungs 22% more volume than normal. Certain areas of memory sporadic. Due to repeated injury I now have a 'detachable' shoulder - that will allow me to escape a straight jacket.

People have called me 'weird' many, many times, sometimes in a nice way and sometimes not. I think most animals are nicer than most people.

That is very interesting, maybe the low blood pressure, poor regulation of body temperature and bad memory go together. After all, goldfish have all three.

My blood pressure was 90/60 the last time it was measured. I have always had bad memory - in primary school I couldn't remember the names of anyone in my class for quite a long time. When I gave out books to everyone, I had to ask them 'Is this yours?'

Re: medical weirdness! im a freak i bet you are too...

My second toe is longer than the first, other than most people here I never feel cold, infact the colder it is outside the better and I get vertigo when I dive below 8m but im working on that. O and this, its not really that big a deal but it does work for either freaking people out or scaring people away when a crowd at the bar becomes a bit too impatient, I can realine the vertabrea, with a series of loud cracks ofcoarse, in my neck and back unaided by just moving my head from side to side and pushing my shoulders back. It really works if you need to intimidate someone pushing from behind without turning around and actually voicing your troubles with them, they hear the cracking sound and respectfully step back
