No offence, but what the hell is everyone on about?
I can't make any sense of some of these threads - I think there was something about pollution in there somewhere. Quote:

excellent marine blog posts! I like the one on eelgrass by James Douglas. (We got eelgrass here in Humboldt Bay, Calif.)

...To Resume....
Al Gore leaped forward and flopped onto the floor at the sight of the scattered sprouts. "I haven't eaten in weeks!" he exclaimed. He began to wiggle his way around the floor, inchworm-style, lapping up the sprouts eagerly. To my horror, he did not discriminate between the sprouts and Greenpeace Girl's recently departed chest hair dreads and devoured both with equal zest. I was astonished, and a little looped from the blow to the head. All this because I had happened to walk by their 7th annual Save the Sanddabs rally?

"What the hell is a sanddab anyway?" thus I wondered aloud and received another lump to the head from a plywood owl bludgeon. And "how much more of this can I take" went through there too as little vegans and plump gores spun and twisted after sprout-like stars over, up and down my head.
Would the cruel author of my life ever let me out of GP Girl's smothering bosom of despair? Perhaps we could start a thread to write a big, fat global warming/freediving/spearfishing/politicaly improper holocaust novel. This may be just the beginning of of the eternal suckling of the teat of survival...http://forums.deeperblue.net/beach-b...tml#post685074

North Calif marine terraces formed
North Coast Journal December 6, 2007 : GARLICK'S NOTEBOOK: TITLE Forests & fossil fuels & black shale North Coast Journal November 22, 2007 : GARLICK'S NOTEBOOK: Do Forests Protect Our Oxygen? CO2, greenhouse effect North Coast Journal November 29, 2007 : GARLICK'S NOTEBOOK: TITLE Why would a scientist deny global warming? Hot and Cool [North Coast Journal] By Hank Sims In the very second episode of this column (Sept. 7, 2006), we took note of some puzzling statements made by former Humboldt State University President Alistair McCrone in the letters page of the Times-Standard. McCrone’s topic was global warming, and specifically the idea that human activity could somehow influence the Earth’s climate. Nonsense, said the former university president, a scientist by training. If the Earth is hotter than it used to be, then it’s likely due to the fact that the sun is hotter than it used to be. This according to an unnamed Russian astronomer, whose work apparently impressed McCrone more than the overwhelming consensus of his scientific peers. We noted the fact that McCrone was a sitting member of the board of directors of the California State Automobile Association at the time his letter to the editor was written, and we left readers to draw their own conclusions. ---- (just a coincidence you understand)

The sun is hotter then its been in 13,000 years. McCrone is correct. This is the concensus of scientitsts that are not making money off of global warming reaserch grants and consultting fees.

jeezus politics is boring. I confess a measure of incredulity at the argument that would seem to encourage throwing your garbage in the ocean. To my mind its analytical thought carried too far. Perhaps it would be useful to consider respect as a kind of energy - of course scientific materialism cannot quantify qualities - such as respect, beauty etc. Sort of the other side of corporate sociopathy - If its scientifically sound then do it. With enough analysis anything can be made to seem true or false. When the mind turns on itself this way you basically have to wait until whatever it is actually happens - the capacity to anticipate and adjust for change - and, more deeply, to actually feel the flow of things; is lost. People forget analysis is only a phase of understanding.
So we have the greed driven corporate-state - which only wants to make money, we have the wack job environmentalists - who basically think the universe should be glassed in so we don't step on it - and we have this third group who imagine themselves informed ecologists and base their views on what they deem sound science. Being essentially intellectual in orientation - they are innately arrogant and the initiatory valence of their interactions is always condescension; referring to their ostensible opponents using passive aggressive phrases like ' misguided' and 'well-meaning'. How convenient! I need only one reply for all of them.
