Re: Coldest winter in 20 years in the US so much for global warming

Back in prehistoric times, temperatures decrease as CO2 increases. We are in a period of increased CO2. Both natural causes and man assisted causes. By all accounts, it should turn around, but it will probably peak out at a higher point than in the past.

But which will happen first? Over cooling or oil depletion? I've heard estimates of oil being used up as early as 125 years.

My guess is that something will change in our transportation before we run out of oil, this in turn should help with the rise in CO2, but the earth will still have to go through it's cycle.

These are all guesses and wishful thinking based on what I've seen, read and heard. I'm not the alarmist worst case scenario sort so...

Re: Coldest winter in 20 years in the US so much for global warming

Talk about wacked out weather. We had up to 9 inches of snow last Thursday just 30 miles east of Dallas, Tx. I got two inches here at the DFW airport which virtually shut this town down and cancelled hundreds of flights. But today were back to a balmy 80 degrees

I'll take one of these:

Re: Coldest winter in 20 years in the US so much for global warming

I think I know where the warmth meant for US has fled.
OSLO, March 26 (Reuters) - The coldest winter days in Russia and Canada have become up to 4 Celsius (7 Fahrenheit) milder since the 1950s in an extreme sign of climate change, the British Meteorological Office said on Wednesday.
A study of daily minimum and maximum temperatures said that a trend towards warmer nights and hotter days was set to bring more heatwaves and shifts in crop growing seasons.
"Minimum temperatures have seen the biggest increases, most notably over Russia and Canada, where the coldest days are now up to 4 Celsius warmer than they were in the middle of the 20th century," the Met Office's Hadley Centre said.
PS Does that mean that Russia and Canada have greater softpower when it comes to weather fairies?

It probably means that the cities have moved closer to the airports where the thermometer is.

Re: Coldest winter in 20 years in the US so much for global warming

My best friend for over twenty years is an environmental scientist, for a company that tests factory / mine / refinery emissions for the SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District). They are essentially the law for emisions in the Southern California area (though admittedly, we are one of the most polluted areas in the U.S. (which is still cleaner than most of the rest of the world...). He tells me that this scientist's numbers add up, and make sense. If anyone out there can controvert the math, please let me know; and I'll pass the info on to my friend. I will not claim to understand the formulae presented, (I'm just a humble video engineer...)

Essentially, he says that global warming is true, is happening, is partially affected by us, but is not permanent, and is not in "runaway" status. What is more of a concern to our (and other species) near extinction, is our pollution of the oceans, particularly non-decomposing plastic materials (thirsty for bottled water?).

We have had more snow int he last 4 days in Frankfurt than we have had all winter. I get the feeling I have landed in the wrong song.... "I'm dreaming of a white .... EASTER?"

Angry Re: global warming

I know that "Global Warming" is the big topic; but how about locally? How is the water quality in your area? Here is Heal the Bay's beach grade map - updated weekly:

It would have been more shocking to look at the day after our first rain, when there are no good grades in LA county...
I used to surf at Malibu Surfrider (the red dot just north of the pier), until I began getting sinus infections, and finally a bad staph infection.

Heal the Bay | Beach Report Card | Weekly - Grade Map for Los Angeles County, CA (except Long Beach)

I live and get in the water in the region below:

Heal the Bay | Beach Report Card | Weekly - Grade Map for Ventura County, CA

My friends and I have also instituted a practice of leaving the beach with at least one piece of trash that we did not come in with. Does anyone else do similar?

I can't get over the simplistic attitude that generated this thread. As if global warming means the weather gets warmer everywhere! Not everyones a meteorologist I guess.

That is a fact. Not everyone is a meteorologist, a rocket scientist, a weather satellite Flight Control Team member, whatever.....

The CO2 global warming theory, which is called fact is what is called junk science. No one knows why the earth is going through a warming cycle right now.

I'm not saying your wrong, because I am no scientist. But do you have anything to prove that it is "junk science"? I've only seen it on TV and then read a little about it. If you have proof that it is junk, I'd like to read it for myself.

Any science can be considered junk. There are so many things that "we" have guessed at, to later find out "we" were wrong. If you have something that proves the Ice Layering technique used to measure past atmospheres is junk, please post a link or source.
