Re: So, what did you all get for Christmas?

I managed to swap one used dry suit and one unused (but old) dry suit back in Russia for one new Picasso ghost 7mm. The issue is now how to get it down to US safely and cheaply.

I'm cold and dried up, but it's typical of the season. Hope all is fine with you. And thanks for buying italian stuff again: we need to keep our exports high these times (your Polosub suit rocks!)

Was surprised to overhear my mother discussing "ice road trucker" over Christmas! Surprisingly compelling and remarkably little competition on TV.

I feel like I had really good presents this year (you may disagree!) & more than I expected (or deserved):

Omer XXV, 90cm of carbon fibre & stainless steel joy (combined Christmas & Birthday present from several family members). Yes, I know, I tested it back in November - somebody to make sure it worked!

A couple of bulky, handy dandy angling accessories. More for the benefit of those around me than tackle I need, but if it makes life more peaceful, bring it on!

New ultrafleece (brilliant stuff: light, compact, cool in summer, warm in winter, completely windproof, nearly waterproof, very abrasion resistant - best thing for climbing/moutaineering/hillwalking). It's a big deal because I've used one for 25 years for climbing granite, limestone & gritstone jam cracks/chimneys/ice, mountain biking, all manner of abuse in various countries & conditions, it's had a very hard life. I'm too big for it now but otherwise it's got years of hard use left in it. Incredible stuff.

New wellies, a surprise but perfect fit & neoprene lined - heaven!

Bird feeders! We finally have a good selection of birds back in the garden again (hope the neighbourhood cats don't get them all!)

Cheapo telescopic sight (Change of government? No, way too many pigeons & doves in the garden. The cats seem to be getting the doves regularly, so maybe won't need it. Rooks too but can't bring myself to shoot them (Dutch Elm disease destroyed their rookery 30 years ago). The recent arrival of grey squirrels in the garden was unwelcome but they've been cautious and discrete so far. Probably won't get much use ... unless the EU ban spear fishing.

A couple of well selected CDs, only 1 pair of socks (hooray & they were good ones), bottles of booze, lots of chocolates (people obviously think I am too slim), "man scent" (...and smelly), large numbers of pheasants and a partridge. Best bit, got see all the family over the holidays -- it's easy to overlook the important bit. Having been abroad for many years, that is still a real treat.

Re: So, what did you all get for Christmas?

I've never seen "Ice Road Trucker", but my driveway could be on that show right about now- who ever heard of a huge rainstorm followed by -2F temps?

Here's a pic of the new bike tires:

Re: So, what did you all get for Christmas?

gosh everyone was lucky in my absence: well done!
I got a set of french cheese knives!
Best of all was 12 days at the coast with calmish sea's and loooooooonnnggg and comfortable dives. I also got my first "apanado" a strange, squirrely fish, hard to shoot, that tastes great. Had it for dinner with the family tonight
Back at work today sucked though...

Did you get the album, "I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left"? It was on my wish list but nobody bought it for me... Did you like it?
yes - and I need to listen a bit more before I decide. Let me know if you want a copy
