Re: a walk on the beach

that's all very well for Floridians or Hawaiians but for those who life in temperate climes with real weather, it is but to laugh. Right, he's gonna walk in Vivo Barefoots when it's below zero in Manhattan and there's a foot of snow on the sidewalk!

Re: a walk on the beach

Interesting. I'm a runner and trying to shift into barefoot running. There is a whole community of runners who live by that philosophy. I have a 5-fingered shoe that I'm training in a bit, but due to a back injury I have to be really careful to avoid any heel impact at all. Vibram Five Fingers: Discover the Barefooting Alternative

Newton also builds a shoe leaning toward that direction (I have a pair), also stating that we should run on our toes, not heel-strike or even mid-foot. Newton Running - Run Better

I would like to test these beach walking & running but modified with extended "toenails" made of soft rubber, above the toes, like diving fins, sticking forward an inch, to see if they would work for diving. I know they'd look weird, but maybe they'd give extra propulsion in the water (and less drag) without negatively affecting walking or running pace. Regular fins are way too long. (Thinking of cross training, like triathlon, without switching footwear.)

Re: a walk on the beach

As one who requires a 3/4" lift in the left heel to keep my hips level, I have serious doubts that going barefoot all the time would be 'good' for my back.
