Hi Everyone,
I have recently started practising the CO2 and O2 table charts and wanted to know some further info I couldnt find by searching.... I am trying to practise the CO2 and O2 on alternate days, but wanted to know how often I should try and break my PB...which is only a minor 1min and 20 secs... I only started to read up on Static and dynamic apnea in the last few weeks and whilst I was practising I can already feel like I could beat it...should I try every day? before or after I practise the tables? Should I try and beat my PB on the same days that I do the tables and how many times should I attempt to do it in one day? Also....when practising lengths in a pool or just static apnea, I find that if I fill my lungs completely with air I cant even get past 20 secs as this kinda feels uncomfortable, but If I only half fill, I can relax and it feels like I could go on for so much longer?? Is this right technique? should I be filling my lungs totally even though it feels uncomfortable? Not sure what is right or wrong? My aim is to hold for about 3.20mins...I am being too adventurous? Thankyou and apologies for the long Post! Best Rob

1) Overtraining/too much stress on your body - if your PB is 1:20 I doubt that would happen unless your technique is very counterproductive. GENERALLY, the longer your breatholds will become the more you will need to be careful not to stress your body and the more rest you will need. I think that now you're in a relatively safe zone regarding overtraining. A table a day and a rest day per week shouldn't be too much and I'm sure you'll improve even if you'll do less. 2) Negative psychological effect - the shorter your breathold the easier it is to break your PB. So you break your PB and you break another one and another one, soon you'll be used to success that when you fail and hit a wall (and if you try long enough, you probably will) it might affect your perfomance negatively. This can cause people to concentrate on the wrong things while preparing/holding their breath. I think it is all personal. Some people need an exact number, "try for a PB only every X weeks". Some just go after what they feel. If you feel that you can and ready to break your PB, I say go for it today and good luck. Quote:

I would suggest first to practice apnea in the way that is more comfertable to you. To get accustomed to full lungs you can try doing stretches on full inhale or close to. Some people can get dizziness/headaches when doing these kind of stretches (though it usually more common with pack stretching). I suggest you start doing them on bed to see if there's any risk of that. A common simple stretching routine could be something like: inhale, srtetch arms above your head and hold a few seconds, then bend over and touch your toes for a few seconds. I think you can get the idea after trying this and create a stretch routine of your own. You can also search for more on these forums. Quote:

I thought I would reply again and say that after training an O2 table today which the last time I held was 2.15, I tried a PB just for the fun of it and got 3.30mins...
I was shivering and tired and manged to smash my last PB over a week ago by a minute... Do you think that shivering because you are really cold in the water will affect your hold time?

hi,
temperature does affect your times. when your body is cool you get a better dive response, especially peripheral vasoconstriction of blood vessels. if you start to shiver, though, your times will decrease again as you won't be able to relax anymore. roland

Robdp....Yeah, when I started out i pretty muched PBed every breath hold around 30 seconds each time... that was my goal. "To at least increase my PB by 30seconds each hold" So far my PB is around 5 mins. and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't PB after that. It's been awhile since I've acutally PBed, but even though I don't see results in time I know i'm getting better. In relaxation, higher times in forceful exhales,ect... The thing main thing I find in breath holding that's odd is: Even though you may train a lot you may not always see results, but you for sure will feel results.

Where can I find some information on this, or the tables and instructions/directions.
I assume this will help my diving times? For fun during boring meetings, I hold my breath to 2 minutes to keep myself entertained. I think I could go a bit further but don't want to get in trouble for passing out in the middle of a meeting. ![]() -Blesum |
