Hey all,
I am 15 years old and have recently become very interested in freediving (mostly because my family and I are going to the carribean for a couple of months this winter). Ive been doing alot of research on things such as breath holding and equalizing over the past few weeks. After hyperventilating I have managed to hold my breath for 3 minutes (before realizing that hyperventilation is a dangerous technique). Ive managed to lower my heart rate to 62 beats in a minute (after icing my face a bit). I can easily dive to the bottom of a 13ft pool without any problems in equlization and stay down relativly long. What all can I do to train myself to get better at diving, equlization, breath holding (without hyperventilation before), and lowering my heart rate? Any tips info. or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! P.S. Anyone know how to blow real good bubble rings? I so wanna learn! |

yeah dude, you started out good. if i were you, i'd start doing static tables. increase hold while keeping the same rest or increase time and decrease the rest...or do whatever. i don't know about you, but even before i knew about freedving i liked breath holding.

Im a bit older than you and starting aswell. Its nice to see someone around my age for a change
I cant help you out with any advice for freediving techniques as I am still a begginer myself, but just do alot of cardio and just dive as much as you can. Swimming is excellent! As for bubble rings, what I do is roll my tongue, stick it partially out of my mouth and let my mouth form around my tongue. Then when its time to do the bubble let out a short sharp breath of air (but not too much) and at the same time draw my tongue back into my mouth. Kinda works for me! |

haha! I figured out how to do the bubble rings! THey are pretty fun. Ive also been practicing static exercises. Today I was just doing 2 min holds and decreasing the resting time.

Its so hard to do statics at my local pool... too many running screaming scratching splashing kids. Glad I never was one.
I tried doing what you were doing... CO2 tables with 2min holds, and I was going good until a kid stepped on me |

Then it is better not to do statics in the pool. It just isn't safe to train alone, even less when there are kids messing about. I used to do that, and had some lucky escapes. Now I only train in freediving sessions.
