Need: Deep Water

I am trying to set up a F.I.T class in Texas but I need to find deep semi-clear water that is easily accessible (not 40 miles out at the rigs). I have heard rumors of dive sites near Killeen and bleached freshwater sites near Dallas.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas. I want to set this up but if we can't experience the full benefit of the class and dive deep we might as well spend the extra money and go to Ft. Lauderdale.

Re: Need: Deep Water

I understand your need for deep water. We live in Panama City, Florida, and the only way to reach 100 feet of gulf water is to take an hour-long boat ride. My hubby and I took the FIT Level II class last September, and we loved it! Ft. Lauderdale is an excellent place to get in some deep dives, as the trip by boat is about 15 minutes...just to hit 400' of blue water! The Gulf of Mexico is just not as good near shore for deep dives. There are plenty of affordable hotels/motels around Ft. Lauderdale, cheap places to eat, and the people are pretty darn friendly, too. We always fly down (we'd kill each other if we were in the same car for 9 hours), and the convenience definitely outweighs the cost. Good luck, and I guarantee you will have the time of your life regardless of where you take the class!
