Keep the stop watch with you but never look at it otherwise you will become fixated by the time which is the last thing you want to be thinking about when doing a static. Keep counting the contractions and use them as a target to beat and not the watch. Well done and keep it up! ![]()

Chris, regarding O2 tables, if my max hold is a whopping 60 seconds, should I start the tables off at about 45 second holds with 2 minute ventilation breaks (8x)? I'm new to the forum and just got back into freediving here on Hawaii.

jhip, thats right! if you find them easy try and reduce the break time down from 2mins to 1.30 and if that's easy down to 1min etc.
Your lucky to be in Hawaii, it must be awsome!!

what are these contractions? i dont understand...i feel a burn thats it then i stop cuz it burns...lol. My max is a 1:18 wet...

Guy's, rule of thumb for tables is listed below for you. Phychotics, contractions are your body telling you to breath out as co2 is building up, to increase your tolerance levels to this reaction try using tables. You will feel an overwhelming erge to breath as you hold your breath and your stomach will contract (or move) this is a contraction..Learn to love them.
Dont time yourself when holding your breath, step away from the stopwatch. Try and beat the amount of contraction you can take each time. If you come up after 3-4 contractions try taking 9-10 contractions the next time and so on. I took 80 contractions last week which is a new personal best for me, i only look at the time when i come up! O² Tables are meant to increase your tolerance to low O² levels. You do this by increasing breath holds while keeping the resting periods the same. The last breath hold in an O² table is usually 80% of your personal record. CO² Tables are meant to increase your tolerance to high CO² levels. You do this by decreasing resting periods before a breath hold. The breath holds in a CO² table are usually 50% of your personal record. Keep up the good work my friend...

like im only 17 years old, and it may sound stupid, but im almost afraid to go past the burn, i dont know what the contraction will be like...i dont know, its just when i hit that burn i stop, i cant possibly tell my self to keep going...

Phychotics, Have you got someone qualified watching you? Make sure you have. Your've probably read loads on safety in these forums (if you have'nt get reading) having a spotter will give you the confidence to try harder.
It's all about mental toughness atogether with building up your tolerance to co2 which are what the tables are for... Keep trying and advance in small steps of 5sec to 10sec at a time. Chris Holmes

When i do statics wet i do it on the top step holding on the rail, and i have only gotten to 1:15...so i dont think im in any danger of swbo...but when i do them just laying in bed, i cant even get any longer than when im in the pool. I will try again, and i will start the tables....any advice helps...thx!!

hehe, im kinda proud of myself, i printed the tables out, and laid on the couch and started doing my co2 tables, i reduced everything by 30 seconds since my pb was only 1:18....and on the last one, i just went as far as i could go, and my body felt vaugly weird and kinda out of it, it was kinda weird yet kool. I got to 1:45, which is almost a :30 gain in 1 day....hehe, and no jokes u guys...thats a long time with no air..i like my air..i almost died right there on that couch

It doesn't matter if your holding on to a rail at the top or what time your doing, if you blackout you will slide into the pool un-noticed and drown. It's not shallow water blackout you will suffer from either it's just a plain and simple blackout.
All thing said that's some good progress on your time though, keep doing them dry until you get a buddy to watch you! Chris Holmes

bite ya, thank you for making me realize what i was doing is dangerous. It is great that you are taking care of someone u dont even know, and will probly never meet. My sincere thanks to you mate! I will do my statics dry until i can find a partner...thank you very much once again!
