Hi Blaiz - glad it just about turned out and you live to fight another day.... I'm with you and everyone else who has posted on this one - has happened to me a couple of times but not quite as close (boat stopped 4 foot away
I've often thought what the appropiate reaction would be but with shafts rising in price I 'm reluctant to lose one. Guess we need to form local rapid response carpark vigilantes.... just kidding - I always contact the Harbour Authorities here but they still state '..a reasonable distance..' without specificing an actual distance. I think in europe and the rest of the civilised world you guys have a known distance ? 50m from a flag or something... Am toying with the idea of using two floats this year (in some locations) on the principle that you might miss one large bright orange thing with a flag on but two might strike you as weird (as a boat owner...) Good diving this season one and all - stay safe. Ed |

Glad you are ok
Hope your emotion scars plump away! I had one accident also! I was swiming at the beach, some 30 m from the shore! iN Croatia, it is forbiden to drive fast within 200 m from the caost! Some idiot was driving boat into my direction slowly! the moron had another moron sitting on the prow of the boat, and the sun shining into their eyes! I was thinking that at least moron on the prow see me but when they come some 20 m in to my direction, boat suddenly accelerate ! I jumped out of the water and waved with hands! They stoped 5 m in front of me, and looked at me like i'm moron! Maybe it would safer for me to take a dive, what would happend if they didn't se me Later that day i was looking that boat in the port, but I didn't find it! I had a plan to threw a wood paint in the interior of the boat !There a lot of morons like that one in croatia, and i hate them! Regards Ps sorry about the english! |

I had a plan to threw a wood paint in the interior of the boat ![quote] Ooh, that harsh! but good! ![]() Like you said before, it may have been safer to dive. Like you and I both learned you sure cant count on them seeing you! My only problem would have been that my floatline and float were still on the surface. If they would have hit that I would have lost my gun... well I guess not in my case since it was a jetboat with no prop but its happened to my buddy a couple of times. The first week he got his brand new 600$ Riffe he got ran over and had it ripped out of his hands. Luckily he got it back( his floatline tangled in the prop and actually stopped the engine). My buddy is a big guy too, like 6ft 2inches and 240lbs so I would hate to be the captain of that boat as he was climbing up onboard! Im sure the guy wished he could speed off!

I think that there should be a universal system where divers have a beacon on their dive flag and if a boat gets within 50 meters of it their engine slows to a crawl. The idea has lots of flaws, but it would save lives if it could be figured out.

Or maybe just one of those EMP things would do the trick ![]()

Actually, now that I think of it, my plan would work really well if people would just implement it into the rental boats. That way the smart people wouldn't have to deal with something so annoying. It seems like anyone willing to drop 20 grand on something probably doesn't want to spend just as much in court by running someone over. Its those idots who drank a whole six pack and want to ride fast on the weekend you have to worry about.
