How to videos

First a little background on this idea. I fly RC Helicopters and there is one person, "Finless", who makes how to videos that cover things from assembling a particular heli to tips and tricks. I was trying to explain something today and realized that a video would be handy, but I could not find one. Finless immediately came to mind.

So I though I might start a collection of how to and tips and tricks videos to help newbies. I'm definately not an expert of spearfishing, I just enjoy the tinkering. If there is a critque of a video, please tell me and I will edit or re-shoot the video. I have some work to do the make the production of the videos better, but below is a start (the video quality, lighting, my verbal delivery, etc).

Also any ideas for topics are welcome. If I don't know how, I will research it and do my best to make a video. Or maybe someone more qualified on the topic will step up and make the video.

Re: How to videos

Very well done. Its nice to see spearos willing to take the time to help out the newbies!

Another good how-to video might be just the simple task of replacing the shooting line on a speargun. Easy enough but I know a lot of guys who still take there guns into the shops and spend 10 - 15$ to get it changed. A one time investment in some crimpers will save some money in the long run.

Re: How to videos

Great videos! what a good recource for newbies. I do find your constrictor knot a little interesting. Its a little different from how I do mine. When my tail ind is brought back up from underneath to where it is crossed i just slip in underneath the x or cross and out between the top v and pulled tight. You have added another twist. Ive never had a problem with mine but I might try yours for s$%&ts and giggles.

Lets see... what about a how to on defogging new masks. A lot of people dont realize the toothpaste thing and how thorough you have to be when doing it, also maybe the best type of paste to use.

Nice Chris. Scott, Sticky it and keep adding! We can add vids with our posts and Chris can decide if they are worthy of being copied to the front page. Good to have it all in one thread.

This is an important thing that a lot of the new people miss/dont learn. Which can be frustrating when their mask fogs for the first four months of owning it. You think a certain kind of paste is better than another? I never knew that what would you recommend, Ive always just used what I had.

Good videos IL. Im watching/learning the wishbone one right now, just in time, as my old ones are wearing out on the RA already. I knew a lot of the information, but Im hoping you go over making wishbones later... Ill have to wait to see though, my dialup is not a fan of the youtube. What does everyone think is the easiest/best way to make new bands?

I was trying to figure out what you meant by how hard it was to insert the wishbone into the rubber. I just watched the video and man, are those store baught wishbones? I usually just use a double seurgeons knot. It has to be 1/4 of the size of that ball thing, way easy to get into the rubber, and never had one pull out.

Anyone know the advantages of that huge plastic thing? Ive heard that the smaller the knot (inside the wishbone) the longer it will take for the rubber around the constricrot knot to decay, at least thats what Ive heard. It seems everything decays pretty quickly any way here in Hawaii.

Good job on the videos. Wish I would have had these a few years ago!

Re: How to videos

Best toothpaste is the paste not gel. Some people try gel, not knowing. It needs the mild grit.

The plastic are Rob Allen. The advantage is they won't pull out as easy as a knot. I pulled a knot through on one. I may not be using the right knot?? I call it a double overhand knot. I think more so was the type of cord on the constrictor knot and I was not getting it as tight as I should have. I'll have to look at the double surgeon, the knot I'm using, I wish it was JUST a little bigger.
