Sporasub Variant Comp Full Foot Free Diving Fins

Does anyone have these fins? If so how do you like 'em? I'm looking to upgrade from my flimsy old BodyGlove fins.

I found them on-line for only $79.00 on sale from $129.00...Sounds like a good deal. They look a little weird but the design seems to make sense. No more PERMANANTLY bent or cracked fins.

I weigh about 240 Pounds & have fairly strong legs. I think I should have a fairly stiff fin -I hope they are stiff enough for me. I'm going to order a set tomorrow unless someone here tells me they're not a good fin. I mostly polespear and am looking to go no deeper than 60 feet - It would be nice to get there with less fin kicks!

Less fin kicks = More bottom time!

Thanks for any replies...

I saw the $350 carbon versions for $49.95 and I do know that they are kind of disposible because the break in no time flat.

Re: Sporasub Variant Comp Full Foot Free Diving Fins

HOLY COW!!!!! from 350 to 49!!!! They must be junk or just too gimmicky looking. Maybe I'd be better off with a set of Cressi 3000 HD's -Or something similar. Remember - I weigh about 240 & I'm afraid of getting too floppy of a fin or one that wears out quickly & gets floppy on me.

The people that paid $350 for the Sporasub Variant Carbons must feel sick!!!

Any suggestions from any BIG freediver's ?

Re: Sporasub Variant Comp Full Foot Free Diving Fins

JimDoe2Us knows his stuff

I will also say though, that I was also curious about the variant comps last fall when i was in the market for my first fins. I was drawn by the low price. Jon also said they have a bad history of breaking and I nixed the idea pretty quickly. So, there's two expert opinions for you (JimDoe and Jon)

Cheers,

Cressi fins are a fine choice and I have had my share! Here are some close ups of my 2000HFs. I have had the yellow pair on the right for 20 years (Jim is ANCIENT)!

Re: Sporasub Variant Comp Full Foot Free Diving Fins

Hey Jim,

I used to have a pair of those same yellow Cressi fins- I guess that makes me almost as old as you.

The Variants have a pretty bad habit of breaking from what others on here have posted. I would get the Cressi's and be set for a good 20 years.

One thing I've noticed about the Cressi's for around here, in cold water, is that the 3000's seem to work better than the HD 2000's- since the plastic really stiffens up in the cold and changes the whole kicking dynamic of the fin.

Jon

Re: Sporasub Variant Comp Full Foot Free Diving Fins

I'll tell ya, ...I bet in the past two years I have seen six people selling a damaged pair of Variants on Ebay where one of the fins was broken in half.
