Hi there,
I have a 2 years experience with the grey Millenniums for spearfishing and I say do not expect them to be anything special. They have some good and bad features. The good is the softness in surface swimming and their quick elastic return for shallow dives. But on the other end, the softness end out in a poor effectiveness of the kick, and moreover, they don't "snap" enough when you surface from deeper dives. If you dive 20 meters as you said, you might want your fins to be more thrusty than the Grey Millenniums. For the cold water thing, staying in the field of the Omer Millennium "family", there are two valuable forum members (Fondueset and Jon) who dive 365 days/year in cold Lake Michigan (not the Maldives!) and they gave a very good feedback about the Millennium Runners (quite a cheap option) and the Omer Ice (more expensive). hope this helps

Ah, that explains the middle stiff blacks then.

Spaghetti,
Great answer. I'm Still a bit indecisive tho as I'm only weighing in at 63kg and the water is cold (especially at depth) here and freezes on the surface in winter. I run quite a bit so My legs aren't exactly weak but if I pick the wrong fins it could be constant swollen ankles. I hear the runners are super stiff and reccomended for big guys with powerful legs... I doubt I'm in that category. I think its a straight toss up between the middle stiff or winter milleniums. I'm mostly in 10M or less and only occasionally do a wall dive to 17M and can get by with a short fin so I don't really need a super powerful fin... any improvement is a bonus. I'll ask the store about the milleniums in stock tomorrow and see if they got a clue. Thanks for the input!

Thanks all for the input. I ordered a set of Millenium winter Greys and I'll see how they go through the winter.
If I need more oomph when the sun returns and My ankles can handle it then I'll get Me some new blades when the time comes. The shop stocks Ice, runners, pegasso and bat 30s most of which would probably break My ankles in winter but We'll see about those later.

Hi Davie,
Did you get your hands on these: Millenium runner OMER Fins Fins United Kingdom Dive Scuba store .com OMER, MILLENIUM RUNNER If so how did they compare stiffness wise to the rest? I dive in 12 deg C water to 25M and my imersion greens are starting to feel too soft. |

Azapa,
I've just put in an order for the millenium greys which are soft. Omer Millennium Winter Full Foot Fins (Dive Gear / Fins) Spaghetti give a good description of them in His post in this thread. Sounds like they might be too soft for Your requirements. The omer millenium runner that You are talking about is a hard fin by all accounts that requires a bit of leg power, it might be too stiff in 12 C. But like Spaghetti says some guys are using them in cold water.

thanks Davie, I read that one and it look positive, his water temp is similar to mine. I am now pouring through: http://forums.deeperblue.net/freediv...ght=fin+sizing to size them.
I use 40-42 Imersions on my size 8 UK (9US, 42 euro) feet with 3mm socks they are fine but my new 5MM are too tight. I am thinking the 42-44 Omers will be good. I imagine you wear 5mm or so socks too, what size omers are you going for vs. your foot size? |

I'm a UK 8/Euro 42 and I'm going for a 42/44 and I'm hoping its good with 5mm socks. I'll need to take the pocket to a local diveshop and try a few socks to make sure.

Hey Azapa,
Got My millenium greys... Oh boy they are soft! Haven't had them out in the water yet as the weather is terrible at present. the OMER footpockets are very square... haven't figured out if thats good or bad yet. i'm gonna have to go to the diveshop and find the right socks for the pockets at some point then I'll report back. They seem good comfort wise without doing any swimming tho... they smell nice too

Thanks for the Feedback Davie. Please let me know how they feel with 5mm socks. Note they always feel tight trying them dry, sweaty feet/dry fins etc. Put a little soapy water in the socks and footpockets before putting them on. Hard to do in a shop I guess....

initial feeling is they will fit with a 5 or 6mm sock. The shop I bought the fins from recommends roughly 2 sizes up for a 5-7mm sock. I'll see if I can buy on condition of fitting or exchange to save Me raising eyebrows in the shop.

Azapa,
Got 6mm socks for My 42-44 milleniums and they are fine, they have enough room for a 7mm tho. there is a little play round the sides of the heel but they grip well round the front of the foot. I reckon You'll have no probs getting Your 5mm socks in, You May even wanna beef them up a bit.

Hi everyone,
thought this mitght be of interest for some of you. Vergleich von Apnoe Flossen der Hersteller Cressi Sub, OMER, Beuchat, C4 This is a German Shop which acually tested some of the fins. If you have trouble understanding aks me, I'll help. Some intereseting test were done like how much the fin bends when you apply one kilogramm at the end of the fin. Gave me a good clue when buying my fins. I dive the Millenium Blacks, but you can't take me as a reference coz I really need thrust. I weigh over 110kg. Cheers |
