Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

I know nothing about the Sporasub Polytechs, I have Omer Millenium blacks. I would say if it is 20M or less the only thing to really consider is fit/comfort, then you can spend more time in the water working on technique.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

I can deal with the fit with a sock if need be. My main requirements is a rugged fin that performs adequately and wont break anytime soon as they'll be bounced off rocks regularly.
I'm under the impression that the Milleniums (black/green) are pretty solid in that department.

The Sporasub instinct polys are Sporasubs newest fins so there isn't much being said about those yet, They are guaranteed comfortable tho.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

the OMER Milleniums in green are comparable to the old style sporasubs (dassaults). I put them side-by-side and tested the flex on the blades. They feel the same. As most of you all know, the dassaults are probably the best all around freediving fin. I've add a pair for 4 years now and they have held up. Its a shame that sporasub discontinued its production.

My wife tried the new sporasubs but did not like them at all and neither did I. The polytecs have a blade that is glued into place so it is much stiffer and changes your stroke pattern. It feels more like a scuba fin.

In addition, at a recent divefit clinic my wife and I attended, Martin Stepanek highly recommends the dassaults (if you can still find them), or the OMER greens as a good second choice.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

i have been freediving and spearing with the polytechs for 2 summers they are really rugged we do alot of shore diving around rocks and theres no damage just minor scratchs i wouldent worry about them break at all ive been down to 25M with them and dont have any troubles coming back up i find them to be comfortable i dont always wear socks with them in the pool and they dont bother my feet

the only thing is there the only freediving fin ive ever tried so i might just think there good cause ive never had anything better

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

Hi Xenopus,

I can get most sporasub fins except the dassaults. I don't trust Their current carbon and composite fins.
The Omer milleniums look good but I can't seem to work out if there is a difference between green and black... all the ads say middle stiffness polypropeline blade. only different one as far as I can tell is the grey winter blade which is soft.
another good thing is the ability to add cool blades like the ICE or pegasso if I'm feeling adventurous.

Think I'm leaning toward the Omer fins.

Hey Messey,

Is it possible to change the blade on the polys? got Me wondering as Xenopus mentioned they are glued.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

Hi Davie,

The green OMER Millenium fins are comparable to the black sporasub dassault in my opinion. They are similar in stiffness. I have not tried the black OMER Milleniums, but you can buy just the blade once you have the foot pocket. Both the Omer Millenium and the sporasub dassault blades are held in with two screws. For all around freediving, I would recommend the green Omer milleniums.

THe new sporasub polytechs are glued to the foot pocket so you cannot switch the blades. I am not a big fan of these fins, because they feel so different from the Omer Milleniumns and the Sporasub dassaults of which I am use to.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

I think I'll opt for the milleniums. I'll ask what colours they got and what, if any differences there are between them.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

in the Imersion Fins the greens are softer and the blacks are stiffer. I would almost expect the same from the Omers. A soft fin will be stiffer in your colder waters. Most of the ratings are based on the med (20deg C??) so a stiff fin will be EXTRA stiff in 10Deg C.

I am thinking of trying the milleniums also.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

So quite possibly the grey winter blades are the best option? as far as I can tell they are the only soft ones in the range, I can still only find ads that say both black and green are middle stiff.

If You try them before Me then let Me know how they are.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

In Omer's, if anything hasn't changed, the green blades are medium stiffness and blacks come either in medium, or called 'Omer Competition', in that case they are hard.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

Yeah I found some ads that mentioned they were both stiffer and thicker. Makes sense as most manufacturers follow that colour coding.

leaves Me with a new problem tho... blacks match My suit but obviously gonna be too hard for a little guy like Me in a fairly cold country.
greens might be right but look stupid.
So I'm kinda hoping Greys are gonna be right for this part of the world.

Re: Omer Milleniums or sporasub polytechs?

As I wrote above, if nothing has changed then you can get black in the same stiffness as green (as long as they aren't called competitions, which are the hard blades).
