How tight should the fins be?

Hi all. I recently got my Omer Ice fins, and when I tried it on without socks, it felt loose. So today I went out and got me a pair of Mares neoprene socks, which are 2 or 3mm thick. I tried my fins on again, this time with the socks. The front of the foot pocket still had a bit of space for my foot to move sideways, and if I forced my foot forward, I could force my index finger in the heel. Is that ok? Or is it too loose?

Re: How tight should the fins be?

Comfort is the key...If they are too tight your feet will surely cramp up...Too loose and they'll also cramp up...Or even worse....you could lose a fin.

If you are not used to freediving fins...Or fins at all for that matter, your feet will cramp up too! Just takes some getting used to.

Again....Comfort is the key...With or without socks.

Re: How tight should the fins be?

I think that depends on how hard you had to force your foot forwards. If it was hard then they should be OK but if your foot just slides forward then maybe too loose. The foot pocket should be just snug with little or no compression but also not loose. How easy are they to get off your feet with the socks on?

Re: How tight should the fins be?

Well, they feel comfy alright.

I had to force quite a bit. It doesn't just slide forward. To get it off isn't an easy task. Will wearing fin keeps help, should they be a tad bit loose?

Re: How tight should the fins be?

If the fins are loose it's all energy you waste. Fin keepers are useful if the footpocket size is still too big, but do not exagerate: too loose is energy wasted, too tight is pain.
Try them in water, then see.
PS-It's frigging cold over here!!!

Re: How tight should the fins be?

Thanks all for your replies.

spaghetti, over here it's quite sunny, but now being the monsoon season, it does get a bit cold, but probably not so much as what you are getting over there. I don't like cold. xD
