Talking c4 fuego vs Mustang (also model numbering)

Hello all - I am a constant weight free diver and am new here. I dive to about 40m constant and 85m dynamic. I am about 176cm tall and weigh about 75kg's and am relatively fit.

I have 2 sets of questions that I would like help with. Thanks you all in advance.

1. What is the precise difference between C4 Fuego's and C4 Mustangs. I was told that Fuego's are better for CW free diving while Mustangs are better for Spearfishing.

2. C4 Fuego's are numbered - 25 (soft) 30 (medium) e 40 (hard). What does this numbering signify? When and for what purpose would one use soft Vs medium Vs hard? Which are better for a free diver of my capability?

thank you

Re: c4 fuego vs Mustang (also model numbering)

I dont know the difference between fuego's and mustangs,

but i can fill ya in on the soft/med/hard.

Im not sure (technically) what the numbers stand for, but as the words suggest they are measurements of how stiff the blade is. Soft blades bend easily, hard blades are very stiff, and meds are in the middle.

It ends up being a trade off. Soft fins are much much better for surface swimming, and are easy on the ankles, but do not give as much oomph when you are in deeper water on your ascent. Hard(stiff) blades will just kill your ankles and make surface swimming a nightmare, but deeper down will give you a lot more thrust. (of course there is a limit where a stiffer blade will be impossible to kick with).

if you are just floating/breathing/diving, i would say go for the medium, although the general consensus for trying new fins is go soft and work up (or is that just when switching from bi to mono?)
