Place: Strawberry rock (Bakhoven, Campsbay)
Time of dive: +/- 2 hours, 8:30 to 10:30.
State of tide: Rising.
Weather: Fresh to strong E to SE winds during the week prior to the dive warm and sunny. Little to no wind on the day with clear sunny skyes and light NW predicted for the afternoon.
Water conditions: Clear cold water up to 12m vizibility. Deepest dive about 8m. Deepest point +/- 15m out on the sand straight down the center of the bay about 200m from shore.
Quarry: Lots of small fish seen to the left of the bay on the point but no sizable fish to take so let them be to grow a bit more. Lots of big limpets around the bay.
General notes: All in all a very nice place to dive with kelp forests spread in the shallows to the deeper parts of the bay. In the deeper water a interesting collection of soft corals, blue and white sea anemones and red bait heads. Also monster limpets spread throughout the bay, wich makes for something to take home if theres nothing else. Impressive gulleys and reef structure formed by granite boulders, so dont shoot against the rocks. Looks like a good spot for crayfish in season. A few rip currents around boulders in the centre of the bay but only in swell so a good place for beginner divers or just for a site seeing trip over the rocks and through the kelp. Fish wise if the water is cold perhaps take a torch to look for the fish in cracks and crevices formed in the rocks and also go out a bit deeper following the reef to left and right of the bay.
Vote: Good place to get wet, not so good for spearing on the day but Ill try again
