Swimming....4 out of 5 days....

Posted September 25th, 2008 at 20:11 by ILDiver
Saturday the 20th I headed up to Wheaton College to meet up with Wreckrunner. He got us into the pool for some training. It was a good time. They have a 13ft deep end which allowed us to practice clearing while using some FRC and negative techniques. We did some No Fins dynamics too. Overall, a good training session.

I stay at Wreck's place Sat night and on Sunday we went up to Wisconsin. We hit Rock Lake with Whopperhead, Tass, Jon and dotey. There was not a lot of activity...

Conditioning.....

Posted September 13th, 2008 at 22:08 by ILDiver
I'm trying to move forward in my freediving goals, but I'm stuck on land for the most part. But I have to keep focus on my goal. I need to get in shape and get my circulatory and cardio systems to peak condition. After taking Level III I know what to do, I just have to find motivation to do it. I would like to compete at least once next year, so I have a longer term goal.

I really don't mind swimming laps to get in shape, but finding a pool at times that I want to be there is...

After the dives in Warm Mineral Springs with cdavis and the level III class, I was getting very frustrated. I went up to Haigh Quarry with WreckRunner from DB here, also did Level III with him. I was getting so frustrated again. I stopped and analyzed my dive and tried to figure out why I was getting such a strong urge to breath, where I had not been getting that before. The first 10m I'm "fine", or so I think. Then I hit 15m and my chest is on fire, I HAVE TO BREATH NOW! So I started...

Haigh Quarry Dive....

One Saturday Aug 30th WreckRunner and I met up at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee IL. We were out to practice our line diving. Most of the day was spent with me being frustrated. I could not figure out why kept getting the tight chest, burning urge to breath.

Getting used to hitting a thermocline was a real eye opener! At Haigh, there was not a big drop in vis, but it was noticeable. The temperature is what you notice. I was able to close my eye on a pulldown and I knew where I was...

The Illinois River....

Almost dove the Illinois River today. I was hoping this was going to be a fun blog entry, but the day ended up a bust.

We set out to recover a sunken boat. I wanted to see how I would do in 0 vis water. A local guy that just got certified with us a few weeks ago swamped his speed boat and sank it in the river near a bridge. Coast Guard wants it out and the ran sonar and "located" it. Corp of Eng. "located" it and so did DNR. The guy brought a fishing boat...
