Memorial day weekend, time to dive! I have not been freediving in awhile. I don't do NEAR enough freediving. Wreckrunner recently bought a boat, so I was headed up for my first trips out on the S.S. I'm On A Boat (not it's real name, but...) I left Friday night to stay with Mr and Mrs Wreckrunner and leave early am to head out to Lake Michigan.

We got the boat in the water and then waited for this crazy polish guy to show up, Nostres. The lake was flat and the water was a cool...

In the pool....

Posted March 1st, 2009 at 18:10 by ILDiver
First, I'm working on a NAUI Instructor course. Part of that course requires a 450 yard swim in under 10 minutes. A guy taking the course with me was not a strong swimmer and was struggling a lot to get through the required swim. He was running out of breath just 2 laps in to the 9 lap adventure. So for the past 3 weekends I've been working with him to improve his swim. Yesterday, after 4 pool sessions with my help and one trip to the pool on his own, he completed the swim. He actually accomplished...

It's 4:30 in the morning, it's Saturday and my alarm is going off. Ugh....I have to get up. I have a four hour drive north to Lake Nagawicka just west of Milwaukee. My daughter needs hours driving, so I have to kick her out of her bed too. I'm not sure what I'm more concerned with, the drive or the cold water dives.

Thankfully the drive up was pretty uneventful. Once there Scott showed up with his ice shanty and chainsaw. Others started to arrive and it was time to cut the holes....

Mid winter dive, the promise of warm water....

Posted January 18th, 2009 at 04:47 by ILDiver
I set the alarm on my new watch. I set the alarm for 4:00 am. To bad my watch was 12 hours off and reading 4:00 PM! I woke up at 4:40 and just stared at the clock. I seriously considered calling in sick and not making the drive. I would be kicking myself if I didn't go. It's been 3 months or so since I've been in open water. Ugh...I drag myself out of bed.

Once I was up I was on a roll. I grabbed my dive bag, made sure my gloves and socks were in there and threw it in the truck. Grabbed...

Illinois - Land of Hostages....

Posted November 20th, 2008 at 22:11 by ILDiver
I'm going to start writing an article to be published by whomever will print it. I have a few places in mind to send it to start with. This is a rough draft and a place to gather thoughts for this article.

It seems Illinois is intent on protecting people from themselves. There is less and less freedom in the US in general, but Illinois seems to want to lead this charge.

I decided to see what can be done to change the view of diving and spearfishing in Illinois....
