Illinois - Land of Hostages....

I'm going to start writing an article to be published by whomever will print it. I have a few places in mind to send it to start with. This is a rough draft and a place to gather thoughts for this article.

It seems Illinois is intent on protecting people from themselves. There is less and less freedom in the US in general, but Illinois seems to want to lead this charge.

I decided to see what can be done to change the view of diving and spearfishing in Illinois....

An awesome day to dive...

But I didn't. I drove 3.5 hours north to go to a cookout and dive. We all carried out gear down to the pavillion. We started talking and did not stop until it was time to go.

The weather was great, the people were also great. I can't wait to dive with the new faces that have recently appeared in our little midwest group.

The cookout was the end of year competition proze giveaway. Everyone went home with some great stuff. Shirts, magazines, Hawaiian sling stringer,...

Well, not really, it's raining here in Central Illinois. But things are still great. I got in a really good swim last night and my cardio is feeling great. I need to get a run in tonight if it's not too cold and wet outside, but I feel great.

Mentally I am amped today, for several reasons. I'm an MMA fan and have trained some in Jui Jitsu and Mui Thai, I feel like I could jump in a ring right now and have so much fun. I would fight with a huge smile on my face and not care what...

The Illinois River....

Almost dove the Illinois River today. I was hoping this was going to be a fun blog entry, but the day ended up a bust.

We set out to recover a sunken boat. I wanted to see how I would do in 0 vis water. A local guy that just got certified with us a few weeks ago swamped his speed boat and sank it in the river near a bridge. Coast Guard wants it out and the ran sonar and "located" it. Corp of Eng. "located" it and so did DNR. The guy brought a fishing boat...

I've decided to sort of "document my adventures". So the first thing I have to do is go back a few days....er...years.

For a little background, I started scuba diving while I was in the Air Force in 1993. I moved around a bit and got away from diving. In 2002 I decided to get back into diving, so I took an "advanced" class. It served the purpose, it got me diving again. I actually decided to do Rescue, then Divemaster. I changed dive shops I was dealing with...
