Freeze-A-Paoolza Report

It's 4:30 in the morning, it's Saturday and my alarm is going off. Ugh....I have to get up. I have a four hour drive north to Lake Nagawicka just west of Milwaukee. My daughter needs hours driving, so I have to kick her out of her bed too. I'm not sure what I'm more concerned with, the drive or the cold water dives.

Thankfully the drive up was pretty uneventful. Once there Scott showed up with his ice shanty and chainsaw. Others started to arrive and it was time to cut the holes....

RI Week update

Posted January 24th, 2009 at 13:30 by slimsteve
I totally forgot to write about the RI trip and have been so busy the last several months that I haven't been obsessing with diving, that is not to say I haven't thought about it.
The weather was great yet again with no rain the entire week. Only got 3 dives in around the light house and one on the land side of a large inlet.
WE started off at the inlet and stayed long enough to ride the end and start of the tides up and down the channel. Did not see any fish but it was great...

Mid winter dive, the promise of warm water....

I seriously considered calling in sick and not making the drive. I would be kicking myself if I didn't go. It's been 3 months or so since I've been in open water. Ugh...I drag myself out of bed.

Once I was up I was on a roll. I grabbed my dive bag, made sure my gloves and socks were in there and threw it in the truck. Grabbed...

Winter Planning for Florida trip

Posted January 14th, 2009 at 16:27 by slimsteve
A big Alberta clipper has left me with nothing to do but to start planning next years first dive trip. I am hoping to go to Florida visit family and get a couple of days free dive spearfishing in. A contest would be even better as beginners luck is still available to me. I will attempt to start a thread to try and find a Florida local to dive with.

A Misty Morning at the Spring...

Posted January 3rd, 2009 at 22:51 by Gidds
After a drive through precarious fog this morning I was met by a beautifully eerie mist rising from the surface from Vortex Spring (the water is about 65-68F). More eerie still I heard the howl of wolves on the early morning air. Wait a minute. Wolves? We don't have WOLVES in Florida. Ok well yes we do, there is a wolf, tiger and other exotic animal rescue in Ponce de Leon. It was actually very nice to hear the wolves. I enjoyed their song for a few minutes of solitude, I was the only diver at the...
