Bluefish

Originally I am from NJ, and still spend summers there. About 20 miles offshore, in about 200 feet of water, we often run into large schools of bluefish. Has anyone tried to shoot them, and if so, have you have any trouble with the makos?

Re: Bluefish

Trouble with Mako's? I for one would be more worried about the school of bluefish, put a little blood into the water and watch the mayhem, these bad boys will shred you if you are in the water with them, and they are excited.

Re: Bluefish

Never went after big bluefish off shore, but as teenagers, we shot a ton of small ones in the northern Gulf of Mexico. You had to be careful once they were on your stringer, the teeth were so sharp they would cut if you bumped into them. Or maybe they were trying to take a bite? On Miami Beach, as a lifeguard, we pulled out a few people who got chomped in shallow water by big bluefish. A pretty rare event, but I'd be careful.
