Hey Folks,
I'm heading to the San Juans off Washington from July 21st until August 1st for a friends wedding. I want to bring my gear and shoot some fish but i've never dove that area. I'm from Hawaii so I figure it's going to be REAL cold for me! I have a 7/6/5 and plan on buying a hoodie. Will small socks that I use with freedive fins work or are my feet going to fall off in 10mins? Also, what kind of fish can I expect and should I bring a gun or will a 3 prong work just as well? If i'm going for flatfish and lingcod then I'm thinking 3 pronging will be fine. Is there anything challenging to shoot with a gun? (rockfish, etc). I'll be off of Lopez island so if anyone can give me a heads up or feel like showing me around that would great! I'll return the favor if you make it to Hawaii. Later, Steve |

Hey Freediver,
I did some shooting off Friday Harbor in August a few years ago, fishing was great but the water temp was in the high 40's to low 50's(Brrrrr) I doubt the socks will suffice, your wetsuit will be O.K. but most locals who scuba dive use drysuits. For freediving , the 7mm will have to do. Look for the big Flatties(Halibut), as far as tip, I'd use a regular Hawaiian shaft, or a screw on double flopper. Hope this is of some help. TW |
