Re: British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

HAHAHA Brianna, nice photo!! I shave sometimes though... you must have caught me just prior.

Anyhow, the last two links on the post I made with places to stay, are further away from Telegraph Cove than I thought. However, the first link has the following to say about it's campground:

Telegraph Cove Campground:

Located one-half kilometre from the Resort Office, a ten-minute stroll up the hill. Nestled in a stand of old-growth trees our campground has over 120 serviced sites available to the discerning camper and RV enthusiast. As an added attraction, the campers like to invite visitors staying at the resort to a "potluck" dinner every Sunday evening during July and August. The campground contains a Laundromat, washrooms, showers, firewood for the nightly wiener roast, and a sani-dump. There are treed, partially treed, and field sites available. There are two small creeks running along either side of the campground and a short trail through the woods leads to Bauza Cove. Rates are based on one tent, camper, or trailer per site with a maximum of two adults. Children under ten are free and there is a 10% discount for stays over thirty nights.

Full Service (water, electricity and sani): 26.00 per night
Partial Service (water and electricity): 25.00 per night
Basic Service (water): 21.00 per night

Extra unit per night: 10.00
Extra person charge per night: 1.50

...and the marina I would have my boat at posts this map. The marina I would be at is next to the telegraph cove resorts. The campground must be quite close then. So, as long as non-boat people are at telegraph cove, we will all be cozy and cuddly.

campground sounds good, but I think I'm only going to be able to make it for the weekend portion- unfortunately summer is the busiest time of year for us at work!

I am in for a spot Tyler. It seems Erik, Lee, Stu and I will most likely all be driving up together. Remember my bed must be a Queen sized. For $30 I would expect nothing less. Food included in that price?

On a serious note. Do you have cooking facilities on board your boat? If so what do you have and what do you suggest we bring? (If you accept us on your boat)

Re: British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

Erik,

Just letting you know that you Canucks haven't scared me off yet . I'll sleep in a tent or a boat; I'm good either way. I can bring my own tent. I have lots of camping supplies, but I'll be coming in by plane, so I doubt I'll be able to bring much. As far as boat living goes, I'm a "seasoned veteran" after two trips to the Bahamas with Connor. That was a 24 footer - good thing I'm not a thick man.

Very nice of you to make such an offer, Tyler. You can certainly count on my to pay my "part".

I would be appreciative of any one who could nab me from an airport, or a hotel on their way to the island - and get dropped off on the way out, as well. To the folks flying in, how are you finaggling this excursion?

Re: British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

My daughter and I will also be flying. Still trying to sort out lodging/camping. Haven't quite got the lay of the land yet for those decisions. We'd also appreciate airport pickup if possible - I'll let you know arrival times etc. as soon as I get that all straight.

Peace,

Re: British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

As soon as anybody knows their flight arrival dates/times/airport, let us know since there will be some people coming from Vancouver who can possibly assist. You may have to take a bus to a nearer location for a pickup.

Re: British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

Work has confirmed that I can't make it... although I've had my fingers crossed for so long that I'm starting to get a case of pretzel hand syndrome

Erik, is there gonna be another trip like this in '07? If so, let me know projected dates when you know and I'll try to get in on it.

To all the rest of you, have a super time! And know that wherever I am I'll be burning effigies of the people that kept me away... Not that I'm ever known to hold a grudge or anything And I fully expect a decent report, complete with pictures, although I will make an exception if excessive consumption of post-dive-libations has dimmed the memories into a pleasant haze

Oh ya, and if the office thinks they can keep me away from the '07 event

Cheers gang! Wish I could join y'all!
Aaron

I thought we were going to some place far away? South Africa or a spearing competition.

Re: British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

I'm starting to firm up some numbers on this thing - so It would be great if I had an accurate idea of where the bulk of us will be staying - where the best dive spots are (hopefully walking distance for at least some) and what's nearby. My daughter and I may rent a cabin or something for the week. I've also got to work out shuttle flights from vancouver etc. So coherent locale info for the unitiated will be of great help. I'd like to have the thing mapped out by the ned of next week.

This is going to be awesome!

[quote=Erik]I think Lee and Stu would also take a berth. QUOTE]

Yes Tyler, if their is lodging room for me, I am a go. If not, I will camp where everyone else will be. If I get off my butt sometime later this week I will try to look at some of these distances between sites on some backroad maps I just got of that area.

The boat may be very nice for some dive spots. There is a couple spots about 1 km offshore that a fisherman's son has told me about. Was thinking about swimming to them but..... We will work out more details and schemes as the time approaches.
