Colin,
I was planning on most of the main meals being a group effort and potluck. I will have some gear and lots of food to share with the mass. Should we formalize a menu or just bring hordes of food each and go with it when we get there? lee |

doesn;t matter to me, was just trying to save some folks some weight. if I/we already have cooking gear for the group no reason for others to worry about aquiring/packing a stove.
potluck sounds good!

Let's get a tally of how many are coming again. I am bringing some things up for everyone and really need a head count.
Jim Doe Colin Lee Lars Brianna Gabe Eric Erik Tyler??? Whoever else is a sure thing, please chime in! Pete, Chris, and Claire will be sadly missed this year, but they each have plenty of time to prepare for "Telegraph Cove 2008"!!! |

re: HOT Tommy's!?!? Gosh! LUCKY! - I think you're lady friends have their dates messed up. The singles dating event is the 24th, NOT the 22nd... <heheheh> no, really, i'm serious.
Hopefully the Zman (tyler) will come to TC. That north-island viz is going to be nice. re: cooking arrangements - I'll supply the nasi-goreng, so everyone can leave that out of their essentials kit... I'm up for just packing a decent amount of some fav's and potlucking on the fly. Just don't pack as if we're each doing an entire meal for every day. We could really use some good local (reliable) info on halibut location. From what I've gathered from a few people over the past few days, it sounds like they can sometimes be found shallow (5-25m), in estuaries *especially when the tide is coming in, as they will sense the tide and likely come in for feeding. A slip-tip (or a BIG flopper of sorts) might be best. If Lindsay could possibly have one of those big hooks to grab and haul a big fish aboard, that would help. If we get the halibut aboard, I'm told the tail/gill needs to be tied, forcing the fish into a 'C', as people have had wrists/arms/legs broken by thrashing halibut. I'm in forsure. Brianna has some red-tape at work that might delay her trip to TC. I'm now considering taking a bus to PortMcNeill and finding a ride into TC, or bus to Vancouver & maybe catch a ride from someone for that stretch up the coast?? Any takers? I was hoping to pretty much spend as much time as possible on the island. If I bus, I'll likely end up shooting for something like friday the 22nd, & leaving with Brianna (who would arrive a few days late).

Lee and I will be coming through on the 23rd... would you like us to pick you up? I could use the gas-cost sharing for sure.
Erik

If you are fortunate enough to locate and spear and land a large halibut, you might want to have a large gaff on board, as well as a hand gaff, and most importantly, a shotgun or large caliber handgun. And perhaps a harpoon rigged with heavy line and securely cleated off. Halibut have tremendous strength and can easily damage boats and injure or maim people. A live large halibut on deck is nothing to fool around with.
Good luck, and have a great time! I wish I could make it.

Jim, I think you have the right list. Although, since Pete has dropped out, Lars is going to extend an invite to a new spearo that he knows out in Van. I will know by tomorrow night if he is wants to come. As it stands we are 8 or 9 depending on whether Tyler comes. So we can accommodate 1 or 2 more if possible.
Erik, what time do you want to leave on Saturday? Last ferry is at 9pm and they run every 2 hours prior. It would be nice to set-up camp in daylight, although this means a really early start (would need to catch the 3pm ferry for this to happen). Alternative is to stop over and head up on the ferry in the AM on Sunday? lee |

Lee I wouldn't mind staying over a night on the way, rather than the frantic run to get there. Better to enjoy the ride as part of the holiday IMO, plus safer.
Maybe stay at Brianna's on the way out? Anytime we leave is fine. We should meet for coffee before the trip to plan logistics and stuff/packing etc. Cant wait! I need a f##king holiday!!

I'll drink to that.
...read your last thoughts. I'll definately throw in on travelling with you guys. My only concern is room for gear. I'd like to bring the usual(s) - tent / sleepingbag / dive bag / clothes bag / one cooler. However for this trip I was also hoping to bring - a float/40m dive line / tarp with telescopic poles / 4inch foamy to line the bottom of my 2man tent. I know you have the trailer Eric. Think you'd have room for this stuff? If so, count me as in *unless some event happens and Bri's able to leave on time (not likely)* Also, keep in mind I'd be travelling back with her. Stop & Timewise, we'd be stoked to have you guys for an overnighter. We've got a practice area, for any mid-trip skillz-sharpening (see attached pic). I think we'd also have no problem marathon driving with the three of us. I agree the cost sharing would be good. Come to think of it, the whole campground scenario seemed a little 'lax last time. I wonder if they'd be alright with a couple of smal tents in one site... Let me know space-wise. Only two weeks to go!. ![]()

Hey Deeprn,
I was speaking with the regional representative of the Ling Race who told me his cousin in BC has developed an appetite for T-20s. |
