Sean, my new Elios suit continues to amaze me! I'm diving in 3 or 4c water and Xmas eve I was in for 90 minutes (had to make it a short one due to xmas prep) and barely got a chill. Got this nice shot of a cormy - though I forgot to switch the camera out of low light mode so it's a little noisy. Elios does great work.

fondueset,
i love the heavenly rays; what a beutiful shot! i have really enjoyed the photos you have shared with us---your ability to capture fish up close and personal is uncanny. i really hope you are willing to share some of your hard won knowledge with an eager padawan this summer. as far as the elios suit goes i am seriously stoked. it is great to hear how well it is working for you. although my suit will be nylon camo out for both top and bottoms to begin with as i figure i will likely do a fair amount of thrashing about. your posts are serously inspiration for me to get out there once i get my suit. i really hope to be able to dive through the winter as well. in my stocking santa brought a "waterproof" disposable camera so i hope to sneak up on a couple of local rockfish or if i am really lucky a seal. cheers, sean vancouver, canada ps. if anyone missed it fondueset posted an excellent review of his newest elios suit, which is a 6 mm smoothskin out top with the benthos-style camo, and 6 mm nylon out bottoms with knee pads. you can find it here: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthread.php?t=68850 ....and yes, if you haven't noticed i can't wait to get my eios! |

Since we are going to the North part of the Island I don't think there will be that many Tourists as I was in Campbell River in August Sailing with Tyler. There was not large amounts of Tourists that far North and since we are going even farther north I think it will be even more sparse.

Having hosted the Ab Grab
and been a participant in the Key Kraze(s) might I suggest that we get a no BS, drop dead date for those who actually plan on attending, to commit? I say this as there will be those, including myself, that are going to need to schedule their stuff, arrange for air tickets and ground transportation. Knowing a ways up front is going to make it a bunch easier on everybody. Just my 2 kroner. ![]()

Roj that - I lean toward the last-time dates - if Telegraph Cove is our staging area rates for everything shoot up in late June - it is also a big charter fishing and whale-watching area and, to the extent I was able to communicate with the whale-watching folks (who's fancy boat has been in various documentaries on PBS etc.) I gathered the Whales really take off in late june/early july. When we were there all of the cabins were booked allready well in advance - though the campground was still pretty quiet.

hey guys,
i vote for the earlier dates of june 17-23, although my schedule is flexible. the days leading up to and including canada day --- july 1 and the 4th of july should be assiduously avoided. the ferry to vancouver island will be jammed with extremely long sailing waits, highways busy, and boat charters likely all fully booked. telegraph cove can be a popular destination, especially during holiday weekends. certainly not huge crowds per se, but enouogh people to fill the limited available local resources such as cabins and dive/whale watching boats, etc. cheers, sean vancouver, canada Last edited by harbour seal; December 27th, 2006 at 22:07. |

Mmmmmm...... I'm thinking beer batter, home cut potato wedges and a guiness would work wonderfully with that critter!

Sounds like a Plan Jim!
Chris: if one of those walleyes ever get suicidal and rushes your spear, try cutting the fillets into nuggets, and deepfrying in beer batter& Montreal steak spice. lay on a tray with paper towels and put in fridge. they are great cold for breakfast or in a paperbag for a hike snack

Anything you can do to flavor up a walleye is a good idea. Personally, I prefer northern pike. Even smallmouth taste better!
