Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

I wonder if thats related to the disappearance of the marten that was hanging around camp.

Hey, that reminds me. I went and had a colonoscopy the other day and I gotta tell ya; it's the greatest thing ever!!
They gave me some drugs so all I remember from the 'procedure' is pretty colors on the teevee and a couple of clenching sensations. (I'm pretty sure there were some tall, grey, smoothish guys with big friendly eyes but its a little hazy)

Anyway, next thing i knew I was sitting in a little room with my wife looking at - you guessed it; A VITALS MONITOR!! Well, as freedivers you all know what that means!! 'Hey Kath..watch this!' After a little while holding my breath my pulse dropped until the little red light came on. The nurse came in but she didn't seem all that worked up and Kath was rolling her eyes. Turns out I'd done it a couple times already. The nurse told me a whole list of stuff I couldn't do that day then added, with emphasis 'and NO; YOU CAN NOT GO DIVING TODAY' Evidently I'd been somewhat on about diving ever since they took me off the meds. Reportedly there was much hilarity as I was being wheeled down the hall.

On the ride home I called my coworker and proudly reported 'I have the colon of a six-year-old..'

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

Nothing like a good colon story!
Jim can you remember to bring a set of 40-42 pockets for Sherri's fins? I'll bring the unused 38-40's as promised.
Heehee, can't wait to get out there.

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

It takes a special mindset to reflect brightly on the positive and fun aspects of "Colonoscopy Day"!!! This does lead me too wonder, since his colon is only six, does this make it prepubescent???

"What the doctor didn't mention to Chris is while indeed he had the colon of a six year old, that was prior to the procedure. After the procedure he left with the colon of a 25 year veteran Hong Kong brothel harlot!!!"

*** FLASH TRAFFIC ***

SIT-REP:

I have invaded the sodom-esq bastion of canadian deviance, "Vancouver", in preperation for our amphibious assault on the Island. The cactus Juice survived the south bound rally and Agent Doe's supplies, although misdirected by the evil imperialistic yankee couriers "fedex" are inroute to Richmond where I will pick them up soon.

back to the beer.

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

Alright. Wow it's been a while since I've posted. The summer has been wayyyyyy busy - but in a dang life is good! - way.

I'm gonna go back in the thread to see where everyone/thing is at, but I'm chiming in to say I'm still fully IN.

I'm actually going to hold back a day to do an amazing hike up Needles Peak (near the toll booth on the Coquihalla highway) on Sunday early AM, then I'll be continuing to the island from there If anyone is coming through Kamloops on Saturday and would like to do this phenomenal hike, you are more than welcome. There will be about 8 good people participating.

Other than that I'm a green light and very much looking forward to getting out there for some of the worlds best diving! I was just watching Extreme Green last night (with a new girly in my life). It's a 45 min video of what the life is like under the waves, along the BC west coast. A great watch for anyone who's never had the experience.

Awesome to hear that gear is enroute and things are flowing well. I'm going to bring a nice 10X10 canopy that will work lovely in camp (it's the style you see along streets for festival vendors). And of course my camera/housing are coming.

Alright, SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

I'll end this here, make some kick-a%$ sushi, and take a look back in here. SEE you all soon!

Gabe

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

Damn, I'm bummin' I gotta miss it this year.
Gabe, how do you like your nemo? I'm convinced its the best entry-level fin on the market. Mine have been subject to extreme conditions at least a couple times a week for two years. I've got a Hyperfin now and man, you gotta try one of these. Not as comfy as the nemo but I'm actually able to school up with pods of carp. Of course, after a couple hours in the water, I need about 15 minutes for my feet to return to walking configuration.
I definitely think BC is the freediving center of the universe - cold water, weird stuff and exotic Canadian culture. Also Jim, an interesting life-form when observed from a safe distance.

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

guys, i have a glitch - and therefore, a need to get a hold of the peeps who have already headed out to TC. Does anyone have contact info (cell numbers) for anyone out there??

the timing of this is frustrating, but my (new) car actually needs work that cannot be done until tuesday - fully under warranty, but timed so so wrong... or is it? Who knows. Other arrangements have been difficult, and I have to just relax and go with the flow, which is NOT going in the direction of me getting out there on time.

thanks for any info anyone has.

gabriel

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

Colin you rock! Thanks for the msg. Here's my cell number (250) 574-5135. I can be contact via phone or email (nurse_gabriel@yahoo.ca) anytime (the iPhone is a AMAZING tool/toy - literally in that order)

I've left a msg for the rest of the crew and I should be arriving wednesday. I will be bringing full camp gear as I will also be in the Tofino area for some camping/surfing. I am bringing a big 10X10 canopy and nice fold-out table that will contribute nicely to camp. Sounds like you're out for good? I hope not but accept that if need be

Take Care (you all) and will send photos!

Gabriel

Re: BC Spearing Trip: Round 3 (2008)

out for good on this trip really sucks but couldnt say no to this new job. quite the career maker.

glad to hear you'll still make it. if you could do mea little favor and assist our yankee dive brother in packing up camp it wouldbe greatly appreciated. I've left them my vehicle and camp kit.
