generally on the north coast it can still be fairly cold in june and you always need to be prepared for quickly changing weather conditions. later in the summer you are more likely to get consistent sunnier/warmer weather; altough, the water is still pretty cold so the visibility should still be ok. cheers, sean vancouver |

I always prefer September for that part of the world- best weather, warmest water (10 or 12C is exponentially better than 8C!) sunny, tourist season mostly over. I'll defer to whatever is agreed upon though.

That would be great for me as well - I believe rates out there go down then too - and here it is better for me to be gone after school starts.

I was thinking closer to Pells Fishing Owl (haven't had spotted yet) - but I agree on the Condor for sure. By the way - my wife makes a stunning Pate' from Osprey lungs. A little pedestrian compared with Condor, I know, but quite tasty with Wheat Thins.

My other thought is that this area will not be swamped with tourists in August, and August is a better time for most people to travel, plus the weather should be gorgeous. Anyone that wants to fly into Edmonton and join for a van trip up through northern BC to the coast is welcome too within reason.

Hey everybody, sorry I am late to the party, I am definately down for round 3. As Lee mentioned I have a brother-in-law, Corey, who is originally from Masset. He has a lot of family up there and is currently checking on who would be willing to charter out their boat (same arrangement as TG) and not charge too much. His dad is a fisherman with a 40' trawler (I think), that may be an option. Places to stay probably will not be a problem. I'll get more info as soon as I can.

Lars,
Sounds great. Keep us up to date on any info on the QCI. I think this could be something really, really good. Even just to see the land and sea up there would be worth going...the 50 lb ling will be icing on the cake. |

You had to bribe everyone with one go. It would be amazing to see a lingcod that big. I wonder though how much fishing the reefs get with the lodges up there. I think it mostly Halibut and Salmon fishing. The commercial fleets though may target lingcod in that area.

Are we getting close to an approximate date for this trip? Its rapidly approaching the time for me to set schedule for next summers diving and I'd hate to miss this one.

What do you think about the last week of August? How does that work for everyone?
